I've had it. My feet hate me. After another long day in the OR they are ready to sue for divorce.
I need some new shoes!!
This time I'm prepared to spend some money to get a really decent pair of shoes that will be comfortable, supportive, and last. Fashion isn't an issue - I need comfort more than anything.
So... what shoes do you recommend, why, and what is the price range??
Your input is greatly appreciated!!
I learned something new the other day regarding New Balance. I have had hit and miss luck with NB, and while shopping I noticed on the description that it listed "SL-2 Last." What the heck, I thought.... Turns out, NB shoes are build on one of several lasts - the solid mold on which a shoe is built. NB has 15 or so lasts, and each of their shoes tell you what last it is built on. The pair I've worn out and that I love is a SL-2, which has a narrow heel, high instep and wide forefoot width. Voila! That's why I love that pair.
Anyway, if you are considering NB, note that they probably make a shoe that you'll hate and one that you'll love - you just have to have the info.
Thanks for the information. I have had a pair of Dansko clogs for almost a year and they kill my feet! My second toe on my right foot is totally numb. And I also have a bunion on that foot and these clogs have made it so much worse. I wish I could take these clogs back and get my money back but it has been a year since I bought them. My feet kill me at the end of the day and now the pain often continues late into the night, preventing me from sleeping. I have a friend who got shoes from Alagria.com and she loves them. Anybody have any comments about these shoes?
I like Crocs, and I got a pair of the professional ones, which don't have holes, have a higher heel cup in the back, and have a non-skid sole. I also have a pair of Alegria shoes, which are clogs made by PG Lite, and they are AMAZING. They have become pretty popular around my unit as well.
I work 12-hour shifts in a level III NICU, and my feet are usually tired at the end of the day, but they don't hurt. I wear Danskos out in the world, but I don't wear them to work anymore because 12 hours is way too long to have them on my feet!
Alegrias are AHmazing! Love love love them! I'm trying to NOT buy another pair. I have talk and really can't justify another 100+ dollars for shoes I don't need right now. I use the Mary Jane style.
(twinmom, I think I recommended them to you on a twin site we both frequent, if not then just ignore me lol)

I started with nurse mates and have drifted back to them after trying some of the latest fads. To me they are just more proffessional looking and all in all a pretty comfortable. They also have gotten away from just white and have added many colors and are quite fashionable. ( I presently wear the Bryar in black ($65.00)and can also wear them with blue jeans.) I used to wear running shoes but after some time my feet began to have some trouble. I learned after speaking with some runners that these shoes are very light weight for a reason and really only are good for 300 to 400 miles before they start breaking down. Not really made for 12 hour day to day use.
In any case what ever you choose have a couple different pair so you can rotate them.
