Best shoes ever?

Updated:   Published

I've had it. My feet hate me. After another long day in the OR they are ready to sue for divorce.

I need some new shoes!!

This time I'm prepared to spend some money to get a really decent pair of shoes that will be comfortable, supportive, and last. Fashion isn't an issue - I need comfort more than anything.

So... what shoes do you recommend, why, and what is the price range??

Your input is greatly appreciated!!

you wouldn't be a big FAN of KT Tunstall would you?

Close! I'm a FAN of Kathy Troccoli (who goes by KT). Small Internet world, huh? :D

Merrells run too wide for me. "Ecco" works the best, I own about 6-8 pairs of Ecco from sandals to winter boots, the one for hospital "Ecco Vibration II Mary Jane", fits perfectly, never get hot in them which is important.

I have tried Danskos, Shape Ups and Nike Shox, but my absolute favorite in terms of comfort are the Nike Air Max 360s.. They are a little pricey, but soooo worth it..

Okay, this thread is confusing me to no end! Can someone tell me their personal favorite in a shoe for someone with my foot type and size? I am 5'6, slightly overweight (abt 30#) and have a neutral foot, neutral arch and no major foot problems. I have found all of the responses terrific, but still do not know what to try. I do not mind spending a small fortune to protect my feet and back and will plan on wearing support stockings for my new job working 12's in the ER. Thank you all so much! :o

Well, like I tried to say earlier, we can't really tell you the best shoe for you. Everyone's feet are different. Some people can wear dollar store specials and be hunky dory. If I wore a low quality shoe for even a small amount of time, I'd be ready to chop my feet right off.

The best thing to do is just try the recommendations! Good luck! I have shoes I like but I still haven't found the perfect shoe. I'm not sure I ever will!

I wasn't sure so I went to a store that had both Alegrias and Danskos to try them on. I tried Danskos first, had them on about 5 minutes walking around the store before my feet started to hurt. Did the same with the Alegrias and felt like I was walking on clouds. Just go put the different kinds on and wander the store for a bit. You'll find your shoe!

Ugh! I also tried Danskos. HORRIBLE!

I use my old worn out sperrytopsiders. After trying numerous old running shoes these are the only pair that don't make my feet hurt. I will be a lost soul when they finally need to retire : p

Im looking to buy new shoes for the OR...I've been doing a lot of research and so far the best shoes I have found for the the best price are Calzuro Clogs (Calzuro). They seem to have really good reviews and their sterilizable which is good for the OR. Has anyone every heard of Calzuros? I know everyone has Danskos but these Calzuros seem just as nice, if note better.

Thanks.

I learned something new the other day regarding New Balance. I have had hit and miss luck with NB, and while shopping I noticed on the description that it listed "SL-2 Last." What the heck, I thought.... Turns out, NB shoes are build on one of several lasts - the solid mold on which a shoe is built. NB has 15 or so lasts, and each of their shoes tell you what last it is built on. The pair I've worn out and that I love is a SL-2, which has a narrow heel, high instep and wide forefoot width. Voila! That's why I love that pair. Anyway, if you are considering NB, note that they probably make a shoe that you'll hate and one that you'll love - you just have to have the info.
Thanks for the info, your shoe description sounds perfect for my foot. We have a new balance factory store in my city and have been meaning to get over there. Last week my friend saw a podiatrist who had recommended New Balance shoes. I currently have Danskos, I like them pretty good but some days by the end of the shift, my heels hurt. A few weeks ago I shadowed at my friend's work for the day and I knew I would do a lot of standing and I wore my saucony running shoes, these were much more squishy then my Danskos. I think I will try New Balance next. One thing I don't like about my Danskos is my feet sweat (with my support socks on, I wear a pair of cotton socks too to help with this. )Any sweaty feet with New Balance?

I love my Brooks. They're a bit pricey, but definitely worth every penny. I also like my new balance, and a pair or Skechers dee lite's I think are called. I wold in L&D and run around pretty much all 12 hours. Also these I mentioned really help me get through several c-sections per

Shift.

Asics! Gel-nimbus 13. LOVE them. Had sketcher's shape-ups before, and loved them too, but they got ragged after a while. Tried brooks glycerin 10 for a few shift and my feet hated me for it. I've heard a ton of nurses say Asics and finally listened. AND they're not that expensive. Mine were $80. :)
