Best Pharm book??

Nursing Students General Students

My school took the pharmacology class out of the program and is only "incorporating" some meds into each unit. To compensate for this bad decision of theirs...I was wondering if anyone had any advice on a REALLY GOOD Pharmacology book to help me learn the meds the easiest way possible!?

This (http://www.amazon.com/Pharmacology-Nursing-Care-Richard-Lehne/dp/1416025529/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1209437365&sr=8-1) book is pretty awesome. We used it in my pharmacology class last semester and I still reference back to it this semester in med-surg. Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing that pharm book, but I was looking for more of a study guide-type pharm book for quick & easy learning.

Oops! I know they make a study guide companion for the book as well if you like. :)

I've also skimmed "Pharmacology Made Incredibly Easy" and that could be worth taking a look at for you.

I bought Mary Hogan's Pharmacology Reviews and Rationales this past semester, since although we took pharm last summer it was reincorporated into our med-surg curriculum and I didn't want to have to go back to that big text over and over. I like her series in general, and each chapter (organized by system) has reviews of common meds, ADR, and nursing implications; as well as 20 NCLEX questions in the book and 30 online for each chapter. I found it useful, but I haven't tried any other series. Read some reviews on amazon, or page through a few in the bookstore and see what style you like.

Specializes in being a Credible Source.

I have the Lippencott's Illustrated Review. It's aimed toward medical students but is a fabulous book. I have the whole series and they're uniformly excellent.

I know you're looking for more of a study guide but that Lehne book really is the bomb! lol

ITA! I like he incorporates his sense of humor into the text sometimes. :) It is very user-friendly.

I agree ---- we used the book by Kee and I hated it. HATED it.(It had a study guide with it that we were required to buy - hated that, too).

I got the previous edition of Lehne's book from Half.com for less than $10 and it helped me do very well in the class. It is easy and enjoyable to read. I threw my other book away.

Specializes in Ante-Intra-Postpartum, Post Gyne.

I LOVED Lehne, if you come to my house you will see that my copy is about to loose its binding, is all highlighted and written all over in; which shows that I really put this book to use. my class was combined with pathology, Pathopharm, and I got an A-..I believe a lot contributed to Lehne! Lehne DOES have a study guide

Dang! Sounds like a book I might need to invest in! Thanks guys!

We used the Lehne book in Pharmacology. I didn't like it at all.

The writing was ok, but I got more out of lecture than I did reading the book.
