hi, i'm not exactly new here but i've not really posted or joined discussions yet. anyway, i have a question--what's the best med-surg text to use, and why? i've not bought one for myself bec here in the philippines, nursing books are always out of stock and i don't want to grab just any med-surg that's avail. sometimes i buy thru amazon. hope to hear from someone! :)

I can't compare it to other books, but the one we use is
Medical-Surgical Nursing by Ignatavicius and Workman
You may get some more ideas by searching med surg texts on Amazon and looking at the reviews. I always look for books that have a number of good reviews (one review doesn't necessarily mean it's a great book even if it's 5 stars).

The Iggy book is used a lot, but Burrell may be the reference standard.

I've got Lewis et al, which is required by our class. I also have Smeltzer/Bare, which WAS required and I purchased it, then they switched texts this semester. You wanna buy it? :chuckle

Here at the College of the Bahamas we use "Brunner and Suddarth's Textbook of Medical-Surgical Nursing" by Suzanne C. Smeltzer and Brenda G. Bare. The text seems to be very straght forward and it also comes with a companion study guide by Mary Jo Boyer. The book's publisher is "Lippincott"
thanks for your replies-- i have seen iggy before, i was so surprised how thiiiicckkk it was. i guess, i'll try looking aroudn here for those books if they're available.
yes, the iggy book is like 2000 pages (and heavy) if you get the single volume, as someone else said you can also get it broken up into volumes I and II if you prefer.
I'm pretty sure I got mine from Amazon.

I have Medical Surgical Nursing by Lewis. Don't buy it!!! It's awful. I really wish our school didn't require it. I use supplemental texts because after reading in Lewis, you are more confused than when you started.
