Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!
Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.
Thanks!
Hi everyone! I think another thread for our class would be wonderful! I can't wait to meet everyone!
Moojie, thanks for the info on orientation - I didn't catch that in the packet, but will check again.
I've done with everything on the packet list except for the physical/titers - I had my physical last week and am awaiting results of the titers to see what immunizations I need. I spoke to the Bergen health office today and she said once I have all my blood reports back, I should bring copies into the office to have them assess what shots I require. AND, she said despite what the packet states about the June 30th deadline, we have ALL SUMMER to do this - as long as we have it done before the beginning of school, we're fine.
So I thought that's good to know - and she said obviously, we can have vaccinations in progress when we start - if we need hepatitis vaccine, for ex., which is a series of shots.
Just FYI - hopefully I'll get my titer report back today.
Hope everyone is well! Also waiting on my uniform - I'm so short, they had to double hem my pants;)
Hello ALL!!!!!! Just got back from my honeymoon (so sad to be back in the "real world" ) and am trying to catch back up on everything I need!!
So, I have:
1) malpractice insurance (registered online at Professional Liability Insurance for nurses, nursing medical malpractice. and received the proof 24-48 hours later also----- def call if you haven't received anything yet)
2) CPR certification
3) waiting on titers but also had physical assessment down and got TB test as well as Tetorifice boosters (waiting to see what else I may need based on blood work results)
Need:
1) Uniforms....where?!?!?! Somewhere in Patterson or something?!?!
2) Shoes....any luck anyone?!?!?!
Hi, for uniforms you will get a packet on the academics section under nursing at the BCC home page. The place is Bell uniforms in Paterson at 301 main st. I bought 2 pairs of shoes. The first are Merrill Euro moc pro...fantastic. The 2nd are Cherokee Rockers also Fantastic. Both are all white w/ style. The Merrills are shoes that surgeons use and since they are on their feet all time time they must be good. Don't forget you also have to get a good stethoscope and a watch that has a second hand. A good site that has some good sales is allheart.com...FishermanIV
Congrats to everyone that made it in for the Fall! Unfortunately, I won't be able to apply for the Spring '11 evening program because I had to drop Chemistry this summer. So I'll most likely be shooting for Fall '11. Anyways, I have an off topic question. What's the policy on tattoos? I know in most workplaces, if they are visible, they'd have to be covered up. But I have heard of places that are extremely strict on having visible tattoos at all. Does the program have some kind of handbook that explains the policy on this?
Thanks!

Just FYI, they sell shoes at Belle uniforms , but once you put them on - you just know that they are not right...they are very stiff and hard to break in..I've been in jobs all my life that require being on my feet all the time, so a little extra money for the right pair of shoes is worth it...If you don't believe me about the shoes , just do a search on this site for the best nursing shoes. I have never regretted buying the merrills, Even when I work as a waiter I wear the Merrills when ever I can..FishermanIV
Agreed! I'll pay the extra money...I currently have about 7 pairs of tennis shoes (yall call them "sneakers" ) in my closet that I bought after walking around in them for a few minutes at the store, getting them home and running in them ONCE to automatically know that there is def a problem. With my back I can't really play around with bad shoes!!
Where did you get yours??
I got my merrell encore moc pro's at shoebuy.com....they were on sale for 74 and I got my cherokee rockers at allheart.com for 65. So they really are not that expensive. They were both ALL WHITE LEATHER and when they get dirty I use the Mr Clean magic eraser for shop rite. The merrells are so comfortable that I hardly were sneakers if I'm going to the stores or even walking the dog , I'll just slip on the Merrels and they are so comfortable you will forget you have them on....FishermanIV
I ordered my Merrells! My sister is a Labor and Delivery back home in Kentucky and she said that most of the nurses she works with LOVE them, unfortunately she has a high arch so she can't wear them =( Hope they fit!
Does anyone have any suggestions for student loan lenders?! The only 2 that the school mentions online are Sallie Mae and PNC....suggestions?!
