Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!
Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.
Thanks!
Hi, In class you can wear what you want as long as it's decent. If someone goes past the point of decency then they will ask everyone to wear uniforms, but as long as everyone behaves then no one cares . As far as wearing clogs or your uniform, that will only be required during your clinical day/days. I did a double clinical day on Saturday, very few wanted Saturday double clinical, they opted for a tues/wed or wed/thurs from 8-1 instead of 6-6 or 7-7 on Saturday. I found doing a double gave me more time with the patients, which in turn gave me more time to get the info I needed for my care plans and process recordings. I did try in, level 1, to do the 8-1, but from 8-9 we had pre-conference, 9-11 to do bed bath and assessments/ vitals, look up all the drugs, help ea. other & be back into the room for post-conference from 12-1.Anyway, I guess i went off subject, clogs were not worn by students..there was no rules against it, but we were told to wear white enclosed shoes...some did wear the clogs w/ the backs on them. They did mention that we should wear leather top shoes instead of the mesh top , since if a needle should fall..it would go thru the mesh, but the leather tops would stop a needle..SAFETY FIRST
Do we have to wear our uniforms in lectures as well?! Or only in lab and clinical?
Also, what do we do in the allotted time for clinicals up until clinicals actually begin? Classes begin on Wednesday Sept. 8th and I will have clinical on Wednesdays from 8AM-12:30, so on the first day of classes do we just not meet during those times?! Or do we go to class for something in the interim?
Hi UK GIRL, when you start classes in sept, the times that you are to be in clinical will be spent in class learning what to do when you go to clinical. You will learn how to take vitals as well as other valuable info. This will last about the first 4 -5 weeks of class then they will assign everyone to clinical sites and times...FishermanIV
I went to Belle Uniforms and found the stethoscopes to be cheaply made. You get what you pay for !..Just do a search on this site or on google for the best stethoscopes. I bought a littmann for 125 + a coupon for 20 % off my total order. It's guaranteed for 7 yrs and comes w/ a cd with heart and lung sounds for free, which is going to be a big help because the exit exam and the boards are not only multiple choice questions, but also put on a headset and answer questions on heart sounds and lung sounds...fishermanIV
