Bergen Community College Nursing Program Question

Published

Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!

Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.

Thanks!

okay i'll check it out... and do we need penlights?

should we buy some of those/

one more thing.

i noticed that their are so many diff. types of stethoscopes, there's one for infants, children and adults, i'm guessing the adult one is the one we will be getting, and assuming that although they are not specifically for children or infants, we can still use them on those patients as well right?

relax a little. get a regular Stethoscope preferably with a Bell and Diaphragm. Peds/Mother/Baby is not until Level 3 and even still we used regular Steths.

We used a pen light during two of my Clinicals...some Profs are more stringent than others.

Hi , As DaddyO said, relax..I mentioned site for extra stuff like pen lights only because the 1 you get from Belle Uniforms didn't last long and I bought 2 more for back up...you know those days when you are running late, and do I have all my stuff!!! Well I just keep an extra penlight, name tag, and multi-colored pens in my car. I bought a good quality stethoscope only because I had a few extra bucks and it was rated as the best.

I second the the extras Fisherman mentioned. Especially the name tag.

FYI -

Some Clinical Profs are anal. They expect you to be totally ready and prepared for Clinicals. I am talking ALL white sneakers, Name Tag, Steth, clean Uniforms...etc

Also I even bought this little RN spiral book of quick facts which was helpful.

Also, before giving meds, some Profs will ask you to tell them about the med you are giving and you have to be ready to explain to the patient what it is your giving them. so make sure you carry your Med book to Clinicals with you. You don't have to give a long novel, just the basics....often times...the Pt will know what the med is for, but you will still need to ID the Patient and be ready to explain the med.

Just a general question for all you Fall Newbies (like me!):: What section is everyone in?

I'm in section 1 and then am also taking A&P II with Beckman on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.....how bout everyone else??

Hi! I'm in 001 as well! Has everyone purchased their books and if so, where did you find good prices? I'm browsing amazon, borders and barnes & noble, as well as ebay, and was able to get one for at least $30 off the regular price.

Are any of the older nursing students selling their books, and if so, how do I make contact with them? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Amy

For the best prices, check dealoz.com . I got most of my books from this site as well as craigslist. I just got books for level 3 for a total of $30..saved over 100..fishermanIV

PS..go back thru older posts or do a search on this site

Thanks, Fisherman! Other question - does it really need to be the latest edition of the book? What has your experience been with this?

YAY!! So we will be getting to know each other very well Amy! Haha! I haven't bought mine yet but have them all in a cart on amazon so I cold see about how much it would be....not cheap.

I'm ganna check out that deal website Fisherman mentioned....

Do you already have your uniforms ordered? I'm going Monday to order them....hope I don't get lost!

Hi! The website is good for deals - I just ordered two books on it - check out Dealoz - don't go with Amazon yet.

I ordered my uniform last month but still waiting for it to be ready - they had to do some hemming and then sew the Bergen emblem on. It's right in the center of downtown Paterson - there is a nice new mall/shopping garage where you can park which is about a block away.

Good luck and look forward to meeting you in August/September!

Amy

Hi, During orientation you will meet all the professors from every level . They will hand out papers for everyone to exchange an email address or a phone # with the person next to them ..thats just the first step to get you to communicate with ea other. They will also tell you which chapters to read before your first day of class. Very shortly they will have the syllabus up online so you can organize yourselves.....after the first day of class, get your study groups together..it's a good way to survive..we only have 8 out of our 30 going into level 3..FishermanIV
