So, I just got past my application with Bergen and have submitted to my background check. I know there is nothing there that is going to come up so I wanted to ask some questions about the test. Is it the NET test? For which ever test it is what is the best way to prepare for it.
If I get into the program I was wondering if anyone knew if my credits from a pervious college would transfer over or would i have to take the classes over. I have my math, psychology, sociology, and some other classes from a 4 year college I had gone to and left for the Bergen Nursing program because my previous school didn't have. If anyone has any sort of tis or anything I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Hey Isabella!
Yeah we had validations this week, I failed a simple one because of nerves and something really simple, but we got to do it immediately the next day so no harm was done. Now I know I need to calm down before validations.
I'm only worried about the math test, because our teacher seemed a little unsure of what was going on it. I don't think it will be terribly hard though. As far as our other two techers, they are tough but I like them. I need a tough teacher or I'll never learn anything.
It is a bit overwhelming, but I'm hanging on so far. Good luck everyone!
Hello everyone! I am a newbie here, and I have loads and loads of questions! I see that I am not the only one who is stressing out over the HESI A2 entrance examination, and I was wondering if you guys could offer up any advice about preparing for it? How hard was the A&P and Bio parts? What was the cut-off for your class in terms of overall percentage on the exam? Lastly, I got an 97ish on the AccuPlacer, do you think I will fair well on the Hesi A2 as least in the Mathematics and Reading areas? Thank you guys so much. I know all of you are swamped and I would truly appreciate any and all info. Also, what do you guys think about your professors? Again, thank you!
Hey!
The HESI A1 really was not all that bad. The hardest parts for me were the science portions, but I also did not take A&P when I took the test. I am only now taking A&P. Honestly for those three subjects I would just review basically the basics of each subject. Go over your notes from your old classes. I've always been bad at Bio and Chem (mostly because I don't pay attention in class because it bores the crap outta me) and I still got over an 80 on those sections. Also, on the A&P I got like a 72 without ever haven taken the class so don't worry too much, it's not impossibly hard. The cut off was probably around low eighties? They don't tell us...but I know there's one or two in the class who got in the low 80's.
I never took the Accuplacer, so I can't help ya there.
As far as my professors? I think their overall wonderful. Very knowledgeable. One of my teachers is kinda confusing in lecture, but she knows what shes talking about when it comes to clinical application. They are all tought but kind. I think that their very knowledgable and definitely want you to succeed.
If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask!
Good luck!
sfinn, thank you so much for the quick response! Knowing that there was some people that got in with scores in the lower 80s is definitely cooling my head a little bit. I thought (because BCC's program is sooo competitive), that it would be around the mid to high nineties! I am taking A&P 1 right now, and also CHM100 (I did not take those with a lab component in high school), so hopefully reviewing from those classes will be helpful:) Another quick question however, how was the Vocabulary section? Should I review a medical terminology book? Thanks again!
No problem! haha I get this on my phone so this is what I do instead of work. Yeah it is a competitive program definitely, but you have to take into account that I believe this is the first year that they used the test so not everyone did as well as expected. When you get closer to the lower 80's though theres a LOT more competition. Anyway, yeah taking those two classes together right now will definitely help. Pay attention and you'll do fine. As for the Vocab, I thought that it was ridiculously simple. If anything, get their study guide and go over the words that they give. Then again, I'm a giant book nerd lol so maybe thats why.
Also, are you taking AP at Bergen? If so, who do you have?
sfinn, how long was the HESI test that you took? you said HESI A1? i'm confused...what's HESI A2? Admission Assessment right? anyway, how long did it take you to finish it? I heard it's a 4 hour test but how can you take all the sections mentioned (Reading, Math, Vocab, Bio, Chem, A&P) in just 4 hours? I mean the first three already has 50 item each and 50 min to finish them am I right? that's already almost 3 hrs. In addition, I believe there would also be Personality or Learning Styles towards the end of the test. The letter that BCC sent me says every section were included but A & P is not there. I was just curious if they're really not going to include it or maybe it was just a typing error. not sure. Bergen won't give any information as well. It's stressing me out. was there really a calculator for the math? was the reading comp. difficult?
I have Dr. Skuka. She's pretty good as well, I like her.
GLN4RN, the HESI gave you 4 hours to take it. It might be A1 lol I'm not sure I know that its the same test either way I just get the name mixed up. Four hours seems like a short time, but I honestly think that I was done in less than 2. There was also the personality and learning styles, but thats not graded at all.
They probably dropped the AP part of the test, because its kind of unfair to test people on it when their allowed to take it later on.
For the math there was a computer calculator to use. And the reading comprehension wasn't difficult. Just pay attention and make sure to answer what they are actually asking you.
Good luck!
Sfinn, Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. It's just that I think too much about this HESI exam. I hate having test anxiety especially when you want to get in the program and competing with hundreds or maybe thousand of applicants. I've been reading your posts here and you've been very helpful with everyone. thanks and good luck on all your classes!
Hey Stephanie...I haven't posted anything here in such a long time, it's been busy!
I got done with 3 validations so far, and on the med validation failed IM because I forgot to freaking aspirate lol...
We also had our first Physical Assessment test last Friday and Basics is coming this Thursday...Did you guys have them yet? I talked to one guy from your class and he said that your class is a little behind validations compared to our class.
And one last thing... where are you having clinical?
OMG sorry for the million question

Hi Isabella,
Yeah we have our first math test next week also. She has only gone over 6-7 problems on the board, so I really can't say she has taught ANYTHING. What did you mean when you said PASS or OUT is putting stress on you ?Our other 2 professors are tough. We had our first validations this week...A few didn't pass the first time . so they have to do it all over again. It's not that they didn't know it, it was stupid mistakes and of course STRESS. We have 2 weeks before we have our first big test in fundamentals ( 21 chapters on 1 test ) thats putting the stress on me , so I have to buckle down tighter this weekend, along with practicing the skills, studying for the other classes, going onto EDGT...but they said it will be going smoother soon....I don't know how I feel about having a test every week...I guess that would be better than 1 test on 21 chapters. At least you know what to expect...oh well its midnight and I have to finish my homework from my 2 other classes (non-nursing ) and back to school tomorrow on my day off to practice skills...NITE..ttys
