no evidence to support any sort of perineal/vulvar prep for routine SVB. In fact with all the new data we are seeing regarding microbiomes and their effect on health, it's not unlikely that antiseptic preps are downright harmful. And anyway betadine is readily "inactivated" by the low lady partsl pH and the copious amounts of blood and other fluid at birth, and hibiclens has the potential for serious GU irritation. I guess a little soap and water would be fairly benign, as long as we make sure the baby doesn't get soap on their face.
Maybe it's just my woo, but I don't want my genitals and unborn baby's head to be dowsed in an antiseptic unless there is a clear indication of benefit.
