Hello, I am wondering if anyone else is applying for BCIT’s January 2021 intake? I thought I would start this thread so we could share our progress through the application process. Good luck!
This is pretty frustrating for everyone. BCIT has been my top choice for nursing school since I made the decision to pursue a career change as an adult learner. I began the long process of upgrading my courses and getting my pre-requisites finished all with BCIT in mind. I applied to multiple schools because I wanted a backup in case BCIT didn’t accept me...and I’ve received acceptance offers from UBCO and TRU, so far. Both those programs are four years long, but start this September. I guess since we won’t be hearing about moving to step three from BCIT until September, I would be wise to abandon my preferred choice and go to one of the other schools. Even if I would get into BCIT, it would be for an April 2021 start, and I would already be wrapping up first year at another school. If I decline my current offers and then BCIT doesn’t accept me, then I’ve shot myself in the foot. This is not going as I had hoped or planned.
@Chippy812 Congratulations on your acceptance to UBCO and TRU!! I understand your frustration. Your decision to start school with UBCO or TRU makes a lot of sense. I'm surprised that both of those schools did not experience any delays like BCIT. I hope everything will go well for you and everyone on this forum.
Hi everyone. I have a BSc degree from UBC but my GPA for the pre-req courses is very low.
75% in A&P
highschool: 71% Chem 11 (*** bc IB Chem ?) and 90% Math
69% Psych
Didn't do Engl bc of IB credits
91% average for the other 2 course
I have applied this time, but I am worried I won't get in. What do you think are my chances? I know they prioritize degree holder, but to what extent, because my GPA is significantly lower than my competitors.
I have decent volunteer experience at the hospital for 4 years, and I've had food/cashier/customer service jobs for the past 4 years as well, and uni clubs.
My question is, Should I retake some courses this fall so I can have a better chance for the next intake?? (I have already signed up for BHSC 1200 at BCIT but it is very expensive ($1800 ;-;) and I can drop it before August) so Im just wondering whether it's a good idea to be safe and retake the courses, or take my chances??
Thank you ?
Does anyone know whether the Deadline for the September 2021 intake is still October 1 – November 30, 2020 or February 1 - March 15, 2021. Thanks a bunch!

Hey!
I think you'll get a better idea about what they look for if you look at the previous threads! Just search up "BCIT September 2020 allnurses". Those threads we're much more active than this one and they discuss all of the things you're concerned about! I know some people have also said that taking the libs courses can add points to your application as well.
As for the deadline, on the BCIT Nursing site it mentions that the applications will start to open on February 1st for the September 2021 intake ?
Hope this helps!

Just wondering if you guys got any update for Jan ?
Not for awhile! All I know is that they're going to let us know if we got in or not in October, and that we are being considered for the April 2021 intake and not the Jan intake due to them having to cancel this Summer's semester for all of the nursing students. If they have any room for January, they said some might be considered to start then, but for the most part we are now looking at April 2021.

Glad I’m not the only one. Hoping we get some kind of idea on our status by end of this month.
What kind of grades/experience are you applying with?
I hope so too! I’m applying with an 83% average with experience as a care aid, community support worker, 5 years of retail experience, and volunteer experience with a mental health and addictions centre. I was previously working on a different degree, but realized that nursing would be a better fit. What about you?

That’s great! So have you completed your degree then?
I have about a year of experience working at St. Paul’s hospital as a unit clerk in med surgery, and recently took a regular part-time line in the Emergency Department. I also have a year of volunteer experience at Burnaby Hospital also in ED but not sure how much they value that experience. I have an overall GPA of 82% but less than 30 credits if you don’t account for the courses I took for my current role.
