Just wanted to start a group for students applying for the BCIT January program!
Aaaibra, no way you can be accepted without questionary at all. But, for those who got a deferral like me -the next term you just have to submit an application, simple formality and complete all conditional requirements as well, but you really don't have to complete questions once more.
So, I've been told by the department that I will get my further instructions in May, as I can't start in January due to family issues. And I will not participate in the competition one more time, coz I'm already offered.
I hope they won't mind, I sent them an email to see where I can improve for the August 2017 intake.
I was also wondering what kind of volunteering everyone does. I have a lot of volunteer experience, but all of it is out of a health care setting. I was wondering for those who volunteered within a health care setting, what you did, and if it felt like a meaningful use of your time,
Thanks :)
My prerequisite GPA was:
I have 40 hours volunteer experience in a nursing home and have worked with children with disabilities. I also included my sales/ customer service employment history as relevant experience. I loved volunteering in the nursing home. That is actually the reason I ended up applying for nursing. Originally I was thinking of medical imaging but I was just so inspired by the way the nurses worked with the residents. I love seniors and you really get the feeling that you're improving their life quality. I was working along side physio people helping out with the mobility program.
Jwillis1, They won't mind if you email them, thats what i did. Thats how i know i need to improve on number of credits and a better questionnaire next time. I really recommend you volunteer at a care home, I have about 35o hours there, i started in high school and continued after. Its also what made me realize nursing was for me because i adore taking care of people. It looks good to bcit because its so hands on. I also volunteered at Burnaby hospital, i had to stop cause i needed to work and i had 85 hours. Im gonna go back for sure. I learned a lot there and its nice being so close to medical people because it makes you more motivated. Good luck to you and everyone who did not get in and is needing to improve their application :)
These are my pre reqs that got me accepted into the program:
English 1177- B-
Anatomy and Phys - B+
Psyc - A
General education - A average
Math 11- B+
Chem 11- A-
I also had over 350 volunteer hours that range from nursing home, hospital (cast clinic) and summer camps. I applied with 78 university credits and I feel like I did really well on the questionaire and quiz. I hope this helps for future applicants :) I wish you all the best and don't give up!
I have applied with bachelor in economics, overall gpa 4.0,ie everything ever taken ranged from A- to A+.
All required prerequisites - A+ each.
Additional science credits like inorganic chem, cell bio, general bio - A or A+ each.
