BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion

Published

Hey everyone, I know the BCIT January 2019 admission deadline is still a ways to go but I just wanted to know how many people are planning to apply, and also exchange some advice and questions with each other.

First off, I'd like to show you what I am applying with:

Highschool reqs

Precalc 12 - 99

CHEM 11 - 86

UNI reqs (UBC)

ENG112 - 74 (B)

PSYC101 - 72 (B)

CPSC - 86 (A)

STAT - 82 (A-)

A&P1 - TBD

A&P2 - TBD

I'm taking A&P in the Summer

experiences

- senior home (occupational therapy) volunteer

- first aid volunteer

- pharmacy assistant volunteer

Here are my questions:

Does BCIT determine your GPA based on your own university's grading scale? Or their own? And also, I'm not too sure about how to calculate GPA, since there are so many different scales online. Can anyone provide an accurate estimate of my GPA?

Does number of hours you've volunteered matter? Or do they consider it by months? Because I don't see a box where you input how many hours in the form.

How strong does my application look so far, and any advice?

Hey guys, anyone from top 15 heard anything yet?

Nope. Have you?

Nope. Have you?

No. A friend who got accepted for January let me know that the deadline for tuition is tonight. I thought it was this past Monday. So hopefully we find out next week!

Oh I thought it was the 13th lol

Yeah, me too... and then I had November 17th written down as the deadline to defer

I have been silently following for some time. I also was put on the "top 15" wait list for Jan. I emailed an advisor and was reassured that people on the top 15 wait list have a "very good" chance of getting a spot for Jan. If they don't get offered a spot, it would be "highly unlikely" to not be then offered a spot for April. I do feel a bit better about that and thought I would share. Good luck!!!

Thanks for sharing that! I really hope we get a response soon!

I got this response to an email too! It made me feel super relieved hearing about our chances of getting in, so fingers crossed we all make it :) What did you apply with? And I'm assuming you applied to January?

Is anyone from the waitlist going to do their CPR health certification?

I actually already have mine. But that would be a good idea to get it done and not to worry about it.

The wait is becoming pretty excruciatingggg :(

Yea. I think I will do it soon. In case if i get a reply the first week of class lol

I have mine done as well but it would definitely be a good idea to have it completed sometime in December!

Since none of us have been notified yet I'm starting to think maybe all of the January applicants paid their full tuition and decided to stay in that intake..

I emailed BCIT they said there are 40 people on the waitlist currently and the last day applicants would be called is January 7 and April 29.

Waiting game is tough but stay in there everybody !
