Hey everyone, I know the BCIT January 2019 admission deadline is still a ways to go but I just wanted to know how many people are planning to apply, and also exchange some advice and questions with each other.
First off, I'd like to show you what I am applying with:
Highschool reqs
Precalc 12 - 99
CHEM 11 - 86
UNI reqs (UBC)
ENG112 - 74 (B)
PSYC101 - 72 (B)
CPSC - 86 (A)
STAT - 82 (A-)
A&P1 - TBD
A&P2 - TBD
I'm taking A&P in the Summer
experiences
- senior home (occupational therapy) volunteer
- first aid volunteer
- pharmacy assistant volunteer
Here are my questions:
Does BCIT determine your GPA based on your own university's grading scale? Or their own? And also, I'm not too sure about how to calculate GPA, since there are so many different scales online. Can anyone provide an accurate estimate of my GPA?
Does number of hours you've volunteered matter? Or do they consider it by months? Because I don't see a box where you input how many hours in the form.
How strong does my application look so far, and any advice?
Hey everyone, just an update for that email I sent out:
If those on the January waitlist are not offered a seat for that intake, we will be considered for April. They will rank us against the waitlisted applicants for the April 2019 class, so we may be positioned differently from our current situation (top 15, top 50, etc). Not certain about whether or not April has a waitlist yet, as they will have everything finalized (class + waitlist) by February 15th.
They also said that the number of offers given to waitlisted applicants has varied over the years, typically between 10-25.
For the people who were accepted into April, do you mind letting me know what the start date is? Thank you!
Yeah, can anyone who got accepted into April share the start date? Also, any deadlines for deferring or paying tuition/commitment fee, please! It gives the waitlisted applicants some dates to hopefully hear a response by. :)

Thanks for letting us know! Did the email specifically say February 15? I feel like that's a long time considering they've done everything so quick already.

Yes, it did! I'm a little confused though.. does that mean there is currently not a waitlist for April and that they'll be putting it together after the January class starts? It also isn't clear to me still whether or not the April class is full, if they still have to "finalize" it.
What I got from their response was that perhaps the April class hasn't sent out all 64 acceptance letters yet? Maybe once the January class has started and there are no available seats to give out, they will give the remaining seats to those on the January waitlist, then reorganize any remaining waitlisted candidates to form an April waitlist. Does that kind of make sense? (This is all assuming that April does not currently have a waitlist or a full class!)

Yeah totally know what you mean. I'm hoping maybe BCIT email meant everyone will know final status by February. Like even people who are on normal waitlist. Maybe?
Anyways, thanks again for keeping us informed. Major help to myself and everyone else I'm sure!

I really hope so too! They'll keep the April waitlist going until class starts, but at least we'll have time to apply for the September 2019 intake if we don't get accepted by February 15th. And good luck to you - let us know if you get an offer from the waitlist!
