BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion

Published

Hey everyone, I know the BCIT January 2019 admission deadline is still a ways to go but I just wanted to know how many people are planning to apply, and also exchange some advice and questions with each other.

First off, I'd like to show you what I am applying with:

Highschool reqs

Precalc 12 - 99

CHEM 11 - 86

UNI reqs (UBC)

ENG112 - 74 (B)

PSYC101 - 72 (B)

CPSC - 86 (A)

STAT - 82 (A-)

A&P1 - TBD

A&P2 - TBD

I'm taking A&P in the Summer

experiences

- senior home (occupational therapy) volunteer

- first aid volunteer

- pharmacy assistant volunteer

Here are my questions:

Does BCIT determine your GPA based on your own university's grading scale? Or their own? And also, I'm not too sure about how to calculate GPA, since there are so many different scales online. Can anyone provide an accurate estimate of my GPA?

Does number of hours you've volunteered matter? Or do they consider it by months? Because I don't see a box where you input how many hours in the form.

How strong does my application look so far, and any advice?

Well I haven't gotten a rejection letter yet so..... there's still a bit of hope LOOL

Also I forget which of you are, but those applying for april intake dont stresss!!! I think people with automatic acceptances hear back first because the rest is up in the air depending on how many people defer, reject their offer, etc so you may not hear until the january intake starts because they'll be figuring out waitlists

If we were to find out when January starts, why would the email say that all applicants will find out of their status by the end of October?

Didn't someone mention about how the people who have received acceptance have until today to decide if they want to be in the January intake or the April intake? Which would mean whatever the numbers are tomorrow, the remaining spots would be given to the rest. Idk that's just what I understood

can someone add me to the facebook group? my name is Ali Sharpe

I dont 100% know but last april people from the jan intake waitlist got accepted in january so maybe they're still trying to figure out all the waitlisted applicants for april. I feel like there may be quite a bit of shuffling around still! If you for sure got that message though then you'll definitely find out whether youre on the waitlist or not tomorrow at latest

Yes this too! People who are given offers for January have time to defer to April and we dont know when the deadline to make this decision is so who knows if they'll figure out all the April acceptances + waitlisted in this short amount of time

From what I'm guessing, with this whole deferring to April intake, I feel like it was only for last April's intake (2018). Last April was the first time they introduced this intake. Therefore, they must have given those who applied for January a chance to defer to it. In case there weren't that many applicants for the april intake? I also saw that people who specifically applied for April 2018 intake started finding out about shortlisting around november.

This year, they did things differently and made everyone, applying for January or April, into what appeared to be one shortlist.

It's so confusing. :(

It would be nice to know how many seats are available for each intake and how many people applied for Jan and how many people applied for April. Maybe not a lot of people applied for April so they are shuffling some of the January people to April?

I agree! It is extremely confusing and while im basing everything on previous intakes, like you said, that was the first time they started up the april intake and things are probably different (and im assuming improved) since then. Just hold tight and dont make any negative assumptions about your status until after tomorrow!

So true.... I was hoping that perhaps april intake didnt have as many applicants so they would move over january ones, but i didnt even get waitlisted yet so i guess it wouldnt benefit me regardless. All we know is that each intake has 64 seats available!

Maybe the waitlist is just for the January intake? And those who haven't heard back might be accepted into April! And those on the January wait list might either get into Jan or April

I was told, through email from a nursing advisor, that there are two seperate competitions. Roughly 200 people were shortlisted for EACH intake and each intake has about 64 seats. But from what most of us saw on the D2L questionnaire, there was only 243 names and was a mix of both January and April intakes.
