BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion

Published

Hey everyone, I know the BCIT January 2019 admission deadline is still a ways to go but I just wanted to know how many people are planning to apply, and also exchange some advice and questions with each other.

First off, I'd like to show you what I am applying with:

Highschool reqs

Precalc 12 - 99

CHEM 11 - 86

UNI reqs (UBC)

ENG112 - 74 (B)

PSYC101 - 72 (B)

CPSC - 86 (A)

STAT - 82 (A-)

A&P1 - TBD

A&P2 - TBD

I'm taking A&P in the Summer

experiences

- senior home (occupational therapy) volunteer

- first aid volunteer

- pharmacy assistant volunteer

Here are my questions:

Does BCIT determine your GPA based on your own university's grading scale? Or their own? And also, I'm not too sure about how to calculate GPA, since there are so many different scales online. Can anyone provide an accurate estimate of my GPA?

Does number of hours you've volunteered matter? Or do they consider it by months? Because I don't see a box where you input how many hours in the form.

How strong does my application look so far, and any advice?

Hey can you add me to the facebook group -Yaz Zy

Tried to look up the group on facebook group but I can't find it. Also, I haven't received the official acceptance letter yet. Just the acceptance email. Is anyone else experiencing a delay in the letter

I just received an email. I'm on the top 15 waitlist. Did anyone get that email?

No, nothing yet. :( I applied for the April intake and so far, the only updates on here have been from people in the January intake. So, im still hopefull I'll hear something within the next 36 hours.

Is there a difference between the hold and waitlist?

Unfortunately not... this is my 4th time... :(

I am applying with no degrees or diplomas, about 54 credits, GPA of 83% and lots of volunteer experience.

Specializes in Emergency.

I would suggest getting some work experience. I was told it doesn't have to be health care related and that even things such as retail where you interact with customers or leadership related stuff would benefit you. Volunteer is only looked at when they have applicants with the same points, so volunteer is used to differentiate who has the better application.

edit: wups I just noticed you got on waitlist LOL, my bad

Oh I see! Hopefully you get in this time. Have you been waitlisted before? The email did state we have a good chance, so maybe you will get in this time
