I was just wondering if there is anyone else applying for the 2014 spring program. It's my first time applying to a nursing school so I'm excited! My HESI is overall average 86% (not that great) and overall gpa 3.7, also I'd be considered a transfer student. Hope to hear from ya'll!
Hi!
Well those of you that feel like you are old, you're not - I'm 30 & will be 31 in the Fall. I have 2 kids, ages 8 & 4, so I know the overwhelming feeling some of you may be experiencing. This will be my second Bachelor's Degree & I am flipping out about the tuition at Baylor. I was told that there are not many grants or scholarships for Nursing students pursuing their 2nd Bachelor's Degrees, most of them are for 1st Bachelor's Degrees. That does not mean there aren't any available, it just means they will be harder to get, but not impossible. The main option for paying the bulk of tuition, besides being filthy rich & writing a check for it, is loans - federal & private. From what I have researched & found from the Financial Aid office is that there is a lifetime maximum for federal loans for undergraduate degrees, in the ballpark of about 57k. There are also annual limits for how much they will lend, around 12.5k per year. So.....do the math on that one.... depending on how much you have or have not taken out for your prior degree is going to determine how much federal loan money you can borrow for this BSN. It leaves behind a pretty good chunk of money still left to pay, even if the yearly maximum 12.5k is disbursed. Leaving private loans as the alternative!! EEEK! I have not applied for one, but the qualifications are pretty strict, most likely a cosigner will be required. I don't know too many people willing to cosign for 60k+ after I've already earned one degree & racked up some debt from that Anyways, sorry that was so long, just wanted to share some of my knowledge with anyone who was interested. If anyone finds out anything different or helpful, please, please, share. Thanks!
Happy you found this post and got accepted as well jmb0925! I actually found your info helpful even though Im not a 2nd degree student. I honestly cant afford Baylor at all so Im really depending on scholarships/loans/grants. And would most likely have to take out federal and private school loans just to cover the cost. Even then I still have to consider the cost of renting an apt near the campus since Id be working and going to school at Baylor. It is such a scary thought to have so much debt already but Im hoping it really is worth it..
I think if you decide to stay at the Marquis, it's an all inclusive flat rate of $2500 for the semester. This is their "dorm," so it's a 2bd/2bath for 4 people.
I'm worried that I will not qualify for a loan to cover tuition. This will be my second degree but I didn't get any assistance the first time around. I paid out of pocket but now with a mortgage and family, my pockets are empty! I wish things would speed up so I can know what I might be expected to pay! I'm thinking I might still apply to other schools just in case I can't afford Baylor! It just sucks because I have my heart set on going there!
Did anyone take the TEAS V?
Has anyone heard anything else from Baylor? Background check?
Hello everyone! I am trying to finish my prerequisites and have a few questions. Do any of you know what is the equivalent course to take at DCCCD (community college) for the Bible-Based Religion course? Not sure if its just talking about courses that are Bible- based or if that's a specific course - either way I haven't been able to find the "code" for it. "REL"something…?
Also, for those of you talking about the 2 foreign language semesters, you might be able to waiver these 2 semesters by taking a test at DCCCD. I cant remember the name of the test right now but you have to be fluent in that second language. I know spanish (was born and grew up in Mexico) and english so I will take the exam for the spanish language and hope I pass.
I am getting everything ready to apply for financial aid and hopefully get some help too. Tuition is the scariest part .
Good luck to everyone!!

Oh, I should have gone to an info session lol! It would of eased my mind a little. I guess I just read alot of stories of nurses or nursing students where their program starts out with like 60 people and only 12 make it
and how it seems that they purposely try to weed out people simply to get people that are most likely going to pass the nclex so they'd have high passing rates. Baylor is just so expensive that I'd be scared to get into the program and be in so much student debt that would be worse if I didn't make it. I'm def overthinking it. I need to relax lol
He was helpful but he did say that really there is not much he can do to tell me how much money I'd be getting in scholarships, grants, loans, etc. He said that until Baylor processes your application and FAFSA, only then would he be able to know. But it wont be until late October to early September when he would know what to tell each student. It was still nice to go in and talk to him though!
