Baylor BSN 2014 Spring Applicants

Published

I was just wondering if there is anyone else applying for the 2014 spring program. It's my first time applying to a nursing school so I'm excited! My HESI is overall average 86% (not that great) and overall gpa 3.7, also I'd be considered a transfer student. Hope to hear from ya'll!

Thanks guys!!

Crystal - I'm not sure where to live! I keep looking online and then reading about the apartments at the Marquis, so we'll see. Do you live close to the school? What exactly is the area around the school called? Good luck by the way finishing up A&P in the summer. Out here our A&P courses are separate, so I can only imagine the stress of them combined!!

Bstillo - it will totally be a change for me, but I'm so excited! I think the thought of living with student loans scares me more than moving!

The Marquis look nice from the outside, I literally just drove by them (I work at the hospital). I don't really think there is a name for that area.. maybe east dallas? Deep Ellum is right around the corner...hmm something to think about lol.

I completely agree about the loans. I am scared to borrow so much money, and get kicked out/fail the nursing program. :uhoh3::dead: it is literally the biggest fear I have. The more reason to study and graduate!

Hi Ashieko, hooray for California people! I'm from Sacramento, but I've been living in Austin for a few years now. I will definitely be there for Pre-nursing day, I'm looking forward to it :)

If anyone here is familiar with the area I'm also looking for advice on places to live, I've only ever been to Dallas twice so I really nervous about finding an apartment. Also, are you guys planning on continuing to work during school?

Bstillo I understand your fear, I'm really nervous about this too. But don't think like that, you've made it this far I'm sure you won't fail or get kicked out. My biggest fear right now is not being able to find a place to take the last religion course I need :nailbiting:

Hi everyone! I'm Christie, I got accepted too and can't wait to start. :) It seems like I'm the youngest one here, lol only 20! The only prereqs I have left are Spanish 1 and 2 which I am planning to take this fall through DCCCD. If anyone knows of any good professors please let me know. Also for those of you taking the 2 religion classes, I took them online through DCCCD with John Wadhams and they were suuuper easy!

Congrats & welcome, Christie! The group seems to be growing and it makes me wonder how many people got accepted!

I am scared of the student loan as well but the financial aid guy at the school seemed to be helpful. I keep thinking I am gonna need a $60,000 loan! You will get "money" from Baylor based on your GPA but scholarships are hard to find. Hopefully they will point us in the direction of some good ones. It's hard to tell if some are legit or they just want to get your info! I am scared I will need a significant amount and not qualify for a loan.

I actually live 20-30 minutes south of Baylor. Just be careful picking an apt around Baylor, some areas are not that great. The Marquis seems like a good deal and I think if you are not big on sharing an actual room, you can pay a little extra to have a room to yourself. Most of the other places around the hospital beside the Marquis are gonna be pricy.

I am not planning on working because I have a 2 year old son and it is already hard to leave him while I am in classes now. I may work during the summer breaks but definitely not during the semesters.

I definitely second Crystal on that! Welcome Christie and thanks for the tip ;)

No work for me either. If anything I'll take advantage now and work the rest of the fall semester, but once nursing school starts I wont, and will most likely work on breaks.

I do wonder around how many get accepted for the spring... would anybody have an idea?

welcome Christie and Ashieko. I am not planning to work either, I have a 4 and half and 2 and half old kids. It's gonna be really tough. I live in Austin and looking to move to Dallas around end of December. Hoping for the best

Hey again everyone! I just got my acceptance letter a few days ago and I am soo relieved! And I completely understand about the loans..I've been at Baylor on the Waco campus for 3 years now and tuition has definitely increased since I was freshman. But crystal8302 is right. The money that they give you is based on your GPA and most of the money you receive will depend on how how well you maintain a high GPA while you are in the program.

I'm also really interested in staying at the Marquis! Is anyone definitely moving over there?

Congrats Baylorlove! I'm definitely thinking I will live at the Marquis, especially for the first year since I don't know the area at all. I guess I'll check it out at Pre-nursing day in September and make a decision then.

Thank you catherineMay! I think I will definitely do the same. From what I hear there is convenient transportation from the apartments to the school so that is a definite perk.

So happy for you Baylorlove07! I bet us transfers received an email, while ya'll got the actual letter. But as long as we all get accepted is what matters right?! :) I actually live around the SMU area and it takes me about 20 min (depending on traffic ofcourse) to get to Baylor hospital, but am seriously considering moving closer since I'd be working and going to school there. Not that i'd work during nursing school but would def consider PRN shifts. Anywho, the Marquis seem pretty nice and would want to live there, IF money/loans/scholarships allow it lol. The apts are really close to the campus/hospital so you could literally walk to school if you wanted to. The area is confusing to begin with. As in you see really nice apts/condos but the next apt are really rundown and crappy looking. The cycle repeats as you go down those streets lol but still would much rather be right by the school.

Good thing I have a chance to bring up my GPA if that is the case. Cause I will need every little bit that can be given. Since you have been a Baylor student, do you think the school is worth the money? This would be my first time attending a university and just want a returning student opinion :specs:
