Based on licensing analyst?

IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE ELIGIBILITY TO TEST DEPENDS OR IS BASED ON THE LICENSING ANALYST? Because my analyst is telling me to make up a class, specifically, psych nsg, before i can take the licensure exam.. while others, who went to the same school as i am.. are already eligible! Is this how it really works? FRUSTRATED!!! :(

@ginger's mom: I understand where you are coming from, it is only just that foreign graduates adhere to the state's policies and standards in regards with the nursing education taken.

I am speaking in behalf of my own experience and those of others that have encountered the same problem. In order to be an accredited nursing school in the Philippines you have to follow a mandated curriculum given by the Philippine BON approved by CHED. So what I am trying to say is if a Philippine nursing graduate becomes eligible, the others should have the same fate because they were studying the same subjects and took the same number of clinical hours most especially if they came from the same school.

I would just like to clarify what I said about the difference in evaluation. I asked my evaluator why they're having conflicts with the evaluation, this is the gist of why there is a problem with our psych hours, (Psychiatric nursing in the Philippines has a different approach, clinical exposure is mostly emphasized during the senior year but what is not clearly stated in the transcripts is it is also incorporated in other clinical exposures during second year and third year, particularly in NCM 101 (growth and development).

This is the part where my evaluator said that she is NOT updated about. So there's also a possibility that the other evaluators are not updated yet. And she has only known this after she talked to another evaluator who made a Filipino student eligible and asked why.

Once again, my posts are simply my opinions, pieces of advice I would like to share because I have been in the same situation. And to be told that you are ineligible by one person while the others are made eligible is just really frustrating. Others opted to give up easily and enroll only to find out that they were actually eligible and can no longer get the tuition fee refund from the college they enrolled in.

It is always up to the reader if they choose to follow the advice written here, this is a forum and we are just speaking our minds. I will not benefit anything here. We have choices, you (reader) chose to read this. And it is also your choice if you follow what it says. :)

US Schools are evaluated by the BON on a continual basis. Record keeping is detailed and laborious. Transcriptions have be clear, that is the standard all US schools have to uphold. Foreign graduates have to prove their education was the same as US graduate. I do agree that the evaluators need to use the same standard for each applicant. With the recent NCLEX scores from foreign graduates at 31% the first time and 20% the second time, the BON needs to do careful evaluations. If a US School had such poor passing rates the graduates would not be allowed to graduate and sit for NCLEX. I think that is unfair that US schools have to adhere to a much higher standard.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but when the US allows almost 70% to sit and fail a test that is the basic nursing skills, it maybe time for the all US BON to review who is allowed to sit for the boards, similar to the process US Schools who have failing rates are not allowed to stay open.

unfortunately, after i got my att after my problem with my psychiatric deficiency, i failed and i had another problem which is affecting all the filipino graduates right now and noone has been able to be eligible yet. i'm having problems with the concurrency of my clinical duties and theories.

i am already in the process of applying in nevada. nevada's less strict. i just dont want to fight anymore. we all finished a 4 year course and read those thick nursing books and made nursing care plans and woke up early or stayed up all night for out clinical duties, why would you want to insist yourself who keeps on pushing you away? that's what i feel like with california, that he does not like me. so i'd look for a boy who would want me and that's nevada. haha.

i prayed and thought of what is right for me. my whole family is in california. but i've had so many problems along the way, its been a year now, and i just felt like something's telling me that i should try for another state. you can face all the rejections which can affect your mojo, your studies and your ego or you can choose one of the many states in america. that's what i'm doing.

if any filipino ever gets an att, well, that's great but from the looks of it, noone is getting it and there is a very slim chance that someone will get it.

hi for everyone... can i ask a question if CA BON found out your not eligible to take nclex exam they return your money for registration or not? thanks for the answer in advance..

this is what my friend sent me:

[color=#333333]i graduated bsn in the philippines 2009 at university of the cordilleras. after taking the exam once they re-evaluate my application and found out that i did not qualify to take the exam. they sent me a reply letter asking for an additional requirement which are the clinical cases, which i did sent. i was awaiting for my authorization to test (att), however, they sent me a letter explaining that i am not eligible to take the nclex-rn examination due to the fact that i did not finish my rle cases before the graduation date which is march 19, 2009 and i found out that my cases did not meet there requirements. i finished all my cases back in the philippines.

[color=#333333]this is an excerpt from the letter:

[color=#333333]::::the board of registered nursing has completed an evaluation of your application based on the documents submitter by university if the cordilleras. the result of the evaluation waas that the program you completed is not equivalent to the minimum requirements for licensure as set forth on business and professions code (b&p) section 2736(b).

[color=#333333]colleges and universities have academic schedules in place that include when courses are to be completed within the semester and when the nursing program ends, this means that by the end of an academic program, students have completed all course work, both theoretical and clinical practice, and are awaiting graduation.

[color=#333333]the transcripts and clinical training records received from university of the cordilleras reflects a graduation date of march 19, 2009. in addition to the transcripts the board has received documentation regarding the related learning experience (rle) record and the required major-minor operations, the required assisted, actual deliveries and cord dressing.

[color=#333333]the board ha found discrepancies in your training. as previously stated, all theoretical and clinical practice must be completed prior to graduation date reflected on the official transcript. the documentation received verifies that you were completing clinical practice after your graduation date. we also show your clinical cases were not concurrent with your theory classes. :::

[color=#333333]i took the theoretical classes before we were allowed to go on our clinicals. but the lack of patients made it difficult to complete those 5 cases during that semester that's why some of my cases were completed one or two semesters after the theory classes, and we were given ample time to complete the required cases before our baccalaureate graduation which was i believe was around april. it is a huge burden for me to be under this predicament. i hope i can coordinate with the dean and school in applying for a re-evaluation of my credentials. if they could give me assistance to clarify my clinical cases.

[color=#333333]applied in nevada, took 2 to 3 months to get my att

[color=#333333]steps i took:

[color=#333333]1. ordered cgfns-ces online. $335. you can choose to have the $500 expedited one, you'll have results in 10 days. i just took the regular one.

[color=#333333]2. corresponded with my school so they can forward my transcript and breakdown of hours in my subjects needed by cgfns.

[color=#333333]3. livescan fingerprinting $65. and mailed my application downloaded from the nevada brn website. $100

[color=#333333]4. scheduled my english proficiency exam. i took the toefl $175. you can also take ielts. i chose toefl because i have to wait 2 months for the next available date in ielts, while with toefl i was able to take it in a week.

[color=#333333]5. afterwhich cgfns notified me that my credentials were already sent to nv brn, i contacted the board and asked about my application.

[color=#333333]6. they said im eligible and told me to pay $200 at pearsonvue.com/nclex whenever im ready. once you pay, you're required to take it within 3 months.

yes. same thing happened to me, who was your analyst?

Starleviosa, was just wondering if i could know who your analyst was too

I saw your posts in another thread about your whole experience, and congrats on getting your ATT for Nevada :)

I'm afraid that according to the term of use I cannot specify a name here. You can email me and I'll tell you :)

Okay, we have the same analyst. 2 other poeple had the same problem who got it resolved with that analyst and so far, you and another one person in this site has the same problem too.

So far, I think we have the same curriculum because I graduated from the same batch.

First, do not enroll in a college, that should be your last resort unless everything fails. I was hopeless too because she kept on saying no and won't even tell me what I lack.

The best thing that you can do is to know if anybody in your school was made eligible that would be your leverage. Because that was what I did, my schoolmates had been eligible and I was denied, until a classmate of mine, same school and same clinical rotation got eligible. I called the license anlayst and told her about it, gave her the name, she checked it and said okay I'm good.

Her reason to me was as I remember but not sure about the words "I didn't know that the Philippines has a different curriculum than California, I was basing it in the California educational requirements, it was just now that I was updated. I'm sorry for the hassle and I will be sending your eligibility letter soon." And one week later, I was eligible. A lot of people actually had a problem with that analyst and ended up enrolling in a school. After what happened to me, I told all my schoolmates about it, and they called in and they were made eligible too.

I thought after that incident, *knowing that now she is updated with the difference of the educational requirements for the philippines and california* it will be okay for the others too. But it looks like I was wrong.

It's GOOD to see someone actually got thru this system! Like winning the big jackpot! How did all your other classmates do on their NCLEX exam? Hope it's all great news for all of them!

Hi star!

Can u pm me your email add too? thank you.

This also served as a bit of a hope for me, but pls take note of the date star wrote this, and her succeeding posts.

I guess by this time all analysts are updated about it. =(

Yep, they are probably all well-versed in the declination reason(s) on why by now, bummer. It was only a matter of time for some of them to catch up.
