barely passing NLE... how important is it??

yeah, i must admit i belong to this range (75-79).. i guess the reasons why i got that grade are: 1. i self study, only referred to school notes and hand outs during college, udan book and reviewer from school; 2. while self reviewing, i also have a job when i took the the exam .. so most of the time after/before work, i would just sit in the cafeteria, coffee shops, and restaurants to read and answer questions.. starbucks, burger king, mcdo, wendy's, seattle's and giligans (yes, while clubbing i would bring a book or small notes); 3. i enjoyed my hearts out with too much gimiks and hang outs during the first month of my review, which made it harder for me to touch base on all of the topics. (altough i mainly concentrated on the essential topics like ms,imci,funda,mcn,etc) and lastly, 4. i erased 5-7 answers during test 2. (i can atest that erasing answers on the exam sheet would greatly affect the result, believe me!!!) this gave me an end result of a cliff hanging grade.. so close from the edge, i could almost smell the rotting failure.. luckily, i had 80 and 81 from test 3 and 5, which saved my life..:yeah:

i hate to say it, but it kinda suck being in this range since especially during interview.. you cannot defend yourself and explain to them the reasons why you got this low grade.. and frankly, they wouldnt listen since figure is figure.. i/we must have live with it i guess.. anyway, its the attitude and perseverance matters.. and most specially the compassion towards our profession is the key to one's success.. some of you might disagree but, sometimes grade is aint nothing but a number.. :wink2:

as they say, we can never turn back time.. instead accept the reality, move on and learn from the mistakes of the past.. (never erase an answer on the exam sheet.. tsk tsk tsk) so i just wanna know your ideas about topic.. how important is it to have a high board rating?? is it really important??

i agree with you, but some hospitals really look at the applicant's board rating. that is why almost all hospitals require a Certificate of Board Rating from PRC as one of the requirements when applying.

but do not be discouraged, if you can prove to these hospitals that you are way beyond what you got in the NLE im sure they will give you a chance. God bless to us!

Well yes its true in the Philippines they do indeed look at the figure. But guess what. . .atleast you passed it on the first try. Furthermore, alot of students did get the same grades you did even if they did attend a comprehensive reviews and i think thats a big accomplishment on your part. . . What matters most is you passed. Thats why in some countries they dont ask for the figure but instead ask if you passed or failed. Anyways, God Bless and keep your head high.

I also belong to that range (75-79) and I have the same sentiments with you arjay. Hospitals prioritize applicants with 80 and above grades.

i have a friend who passed his NLE on the same range as yours...he works in an ICU in a tertiary hospital now. Figures are figures and employers will look at them, so you need a backer. huhuhu!

i hate to agree with you, but yeah, that's true... even though your grades during college were good, it wouldn't matter... all they would check (like a summary of your life as a nursing student) are the grades that you got from the prc... :crying2:

nevertheless, (i think) the key to success would still have to be the personality... i mean, given that you're the magna cum laude of your school and topped the board exam but you're arrogant and have this stinking personality, i don't think a hospital would also accept you right?!?

no worries... i have accepted this reality and overcome this state... all i need to do now is show them my best and show them my worth as a nurse...

I also did self review in the NLE and got 82. though I have an 80+ average, I still can't find a paying nursing job without a powerful backer.. :-(

it is so strange i know bsn graduates who are still trying to take the local boards for the fourth time or so. and reading that getting a passing range of 75-79.having that grade is not as satisfacory for some people but it is not all the standard of being a good nurse, i know some of my colleagues who have a rating below of 80 and they are working on hospitals and even outdoing some of the nurses who got high marks on their nle,it is just not what your grades are that makes a good nurse in a hospital setting which eventually will be learned by all nurses when they get their chance to work in a hospital.i know hospitals raising their standards which is not a good parameter for getting a nurse base from my experience but what can we do about it. the best thing if you don't think that your nle results are sufficient to be employed by a hospital, maybe the next best thing is to volunteer in a hospital, or get trainings,and learn more from seminars and conferences, good luck to all of us in the field of nursing.

I have the same problem. Maybe that is why no one that I have submitted with my resume ever calls me. maybe it was the rating. Well, our time will come soon. We will find a job just don't give u hope.

i'm awaiting the nle results and i know that a lot of RNs are having a hard time looking for a job. almost 90,000 people took the exam last november and they usually take in the upper 40% so that means over 30,000 more nurses are going to compete for the limited jobs available. that's why the competitition is really stiff.

I'm fortunate i didn't have to take the NLE upon graduation. I've heard of people failing the local board but passing the NCLEX-RN.
