Banner Nurse Fellows Program

Published

I interviewed for the nurse fellows program through Banner about three weeks ago and still haven't heard anything! I was talking to another girl there for an interview who said that her friend (I know, I know, don't listen to anything like this, but I can't help it!) got a call a week after her interview offering her a slot. Has anyone else interviewed and heard anything?

I don't know why I'm so freaking out about it. I'm already accepted into Mesa to start in January (I deferred) but I WANT TO GET INTO THIS!

Hello!

To those who have been accepted into the program, could you tell me if you think I have a good chance of getting accepted? Thanks.

I've worked two jobs FT to pay for school for the last two years. So I got C's in all of my math/science classes. I scored 80 on Math and 70 on Reading on the NET test. Overall score was 926. So although my grades are not the best, I do have experience. I volunteered at Banner in the NICU, I worked at an OBGYN office in Medical Records, and I currently work at a Family Practice office triaging patients (blood draws, labs, EKGs, BPs, etc.). I think I have what it takes and a good amount of medical experience. I have an appt to turn in my Maricopa application on Friday, and I am going to another Banner Info Session Thurs, so I'll probably apply next week. Do you think I have a good chance of getting in? Thanks so much! & congrats to those who got in :)

It is hard to say if you will get in or not. I really thought that I wasn't going to get in but did. I thought that I bombed the interview because the questions that I was prepared for they didn't ask LOL. But I was myself and answered from my heart and got picked for the program the next day. I am not sure about your grades and net scores. I scored 97 on math and 70 on reading and my overall score was 986. I have a 3.824 GPA. All you can do is try and see what happens. I originally applied for the March cohort with Banner and they wanted me to interview for this Oct and I got in so you never know how it will go. I also don't have to work and I told them that. I haven't really had any medical experience either. Just be yourself and hope for the best. Good Luck----kelli

Specializes in NICU Nurse.

I love keeping up and reading the replies in this thread. I can't wait until I can apply to the program in a few semesters!! :D

It is really hard to say what they look for. I applied with a 3.6 GPA and got a 100 on my math and an 80 on reading. I was told that I lost two points because of my GPA and my score on the Predicting outcomes. I think your experience could help but I do not know if they look at that because I have no healthcare experience and was still accepted. I think that if you get an interview just try and relax and be yourself and answer the questions from the heart. Good Luck.

Everyone check your emails I just did and I finally have confirmation that I am placed on the MCCNP website and the number of people on the waiting list went down as well. I am even more excited now maybe we will receive our welcome packs :). Yeah! ----kelli

I just replied with an electronic confirmation. I am looking forward to getting my packet. Congrats to everyone who is in the boat.

Yes! Received my confirmation letter as well!

Is anyone attending their college for the first time? This will be my first time as a student at GWCC so I had to register there tonight. I was wondering if I needed to go down now for residency status, can I wait, or is it even unnecessary? looks like we may start clinicals at the hospital the first of December. :D I can't believe after waiting for so long that we are moving forward WOOOOO-HOOOOO! I plan on meeting all of the other GWCC students tomorrow morning with my 3-year old daughter (she will be dressed like a princess, tiara and all!)

This will be my first time registering at EMCC and I called today because I did not understand why they put me as out of state and the lady said I do have to come to the school and prove residency and that your a citizen. I think you might be able to fax it as well. It is some new policy that they have. I am going to go there and handle it so that is not in the way of anything. I thought it would be easy since I already go to GCC but I guess that doesn't matter. So many things to do before the program starts. Good Luck----kelli

I would definitely get this taken care of before the start of classes. I just had to go through and deal with all of this earlier today, and I about had a heart attack. I remember them saying in the info sessions that you MUST be an in-state resident for tuition in order to be able to participate in the program because they will not pay out of state tuition reimbursement.

To make a long story short, I got a ton of incorrect info, but the overall answer is that you have to have been a resident starting by August 22, 2008 to qualify for in-state residency. You can bring in all your proof to any MCCD college to have them validate and change your info in the computer, and then just call whichever school you are attending and let them know that it was changed.

Good luck ;) Looking forward to meeting you!

I've been in-state since 1984. ;) I just think it is crazy that all of the colleges in Maricopa County District can't share this info somehow.

GWCC October Cohort who met today: I am so sorry I did not make it. My son's 20 minute appointment turned into a fiasco that lasted over 2 hours, by the time I got him to school it was nearly 10:30am. Anyways I look forward to seeing you in October when my parenting responsibilities will be less.

GWCC students I just got my packet which included a schedule in the mail today! Our Orientation is Oct. 12 8:30 am - 3:00 pm. See you there!
