Banner Nurse Fellows Program

Published

I interviewed for the nurse fellows program through Banner about three weeks ago and still haven't heard anything! I was talking to another girl there for an interview who said that her friend (I know, I know, don't listen to anything like this, but I can't help it!) got a call a week after her interview offering her a slot. Has anyone else interviewed and heard anything?

I don't know why I'm so freaking out about it. I'm already accepted into Mesa to start in January (I deferred) but I WANT TO GET INTO THIS!

It looks like I'll be joining those of you at GWCC!! :)

Specializes in CNA - Oncology.
Congrats Teenie0731, I be going to EMCC

Thank you!! You, too! I am sooo very excited! :yeah:

Specializes in tending to three sons how like to test.

Sincere congratulations to all of you who were accepted into the October cohort. I am disappointed that I did not get accepted...but since my dad is suffering from pulmonary fibrosis and needs me right now perhaps that is for the best. Things like this happen for a reason even though it can be hard to accept. Good luck to you all and I hope to get into the March cohort! Cheers!! Please keep posting on the website so we can find out how it is going!!

To all those who didn't get in for Oct,

I am currently in Block 2 Banner Cohort 4 @ MCC. I applied 4 times! When I did finally get it, I was thankful for the location and the timing. It was perfect from my life and my needs. Just realize that things happen for a reason, and you WILL be a nurse!!! Take this time to get life, finances, childcare, work, study, and everything else organized. You MUST have a good support system in place so that you don't lose you mind! I am a single mom to an amazing 3 yr old, who is trying to fix my hair as I type this, and its not easy to be a mom, student, and sane person at the same time. But its do-able!! When they tell you try not to work, they are right!! The ones that have had the harder time in my class, are the ones working full time. It can be done, as we haven't lost anyone, but its definately hard. So, study up, retake the NET for the best possible score, and apply again. Also know that if its not through Banner, you WILL get in somewhere. Thats the attitude I had when I carelessly applied my 4th time!! I think that confidence is what impressed them in my interview.

To all those who did get in, CONGRATS!!! Your anxious waiting makes me remember my wait, and excitment!!! They mailed us the acceptance packets back then (less than a year ago) via USPS. We had to stalk the mailman daily!!! When you sign your contract and send it back, pay the extra $1 for delivery confirmation. My contract got lost, and they coordinator called me to make sure I still wanted my spot. I screamed "YES!!!" so I had to drive another one down there and hand deliever it.

Also, take my advice above and get your life organized, buy a good wheeley bag (like a small carry on luggage or very sturdy wheeled, large backpack) cause you will get a ton of books that are really heavy. Bring your bag to orientation, and park close to the bookstore that day as you will bring your books home that day. Resist the urge to play with the goodies in your nurse pack cause you need those supplies all 4 blocks. Also, buy a good laser printer (Officemax has a great Samsung one for $30 after rebate this week) and a case of papwe as you will have to print your own powerpoints and they are usually 100 slides each, with 2-4 lectures a week. Also, a laptop if you have one is wonderful, if not, atleast a flash drive. Lastly, go to MCC website or Itunes and search for Mesa Community College podcast. Find the Pathophysiology lectures done by ------------. They are free, awesome, and will give you a great Patho base for Blocks 1 and 2. We didn't find them until Block 2, where they are most applicable, but I wish I had this base for Block 1. I even took Patho 240 online at Rio and I am still learning alot!!

Ok, lastly, go and celebrate!!! See all your friends and family, spend the next 2 months with them, and then wish them goodbye for the next 16 months. You'll be busy, excited, exhausted, and loving it!!! Congrats and welcome to the fold!!!

Hi!

I found out last Friday that I have been accepted into the Banner Nurse Fellows EMCC cohort in October!.. Yay! I'm so thrilled. Now, I need to find a place to live as I am a single girl, 21, with family in PHX... but I don't want to live so far away. So I found an apartment close to Estrella Mountain, but I'm not sure I want to live alone. I want to know if there is anyone in the same cohort as me that needs a roommate?? If not.. is the cohort mostly made up of moms? Just curious because I'm getting a little nervous with making living arrangements/loans/moving all that good stuff...

also, has anyone received the packet yet??

Thanks and again,

so excited to meet all of you and can't wait to get to work!

ok, so they took out the name of the teacher who lectures on itunes. so, here's how to get to it if anyone's interested.

go to http://mc.maricopa.edu then search for itunes (in the top right hand corner, little white box). click the first link, the blue "mcc on itunes u". this will open on your itunes on your computer. (if you don't have it already, you'll need to download it). then the 4th box down, special programs, click on nursing. then under courses, patho 104. then you can download each movie. they are free, and totally worth your time!!

Third time is the charm I guess. I applied 3 times and got 2 interviews. But who cares I am in and starting at EMCC in Oct. I am so happy. If anyone elses wants to meet others from the class, let me know. Congrats to all that got in and to those who didn't just keep trying.

Melina

Hi Melina!

I would love to meet as I am pretty nervous (but excited :) ) about starting the program.

also, I was wondering what areas everyone is living in... I'm in Phx/Paradise Valley.. which is pretty far...

Okay, I got the packet today and was hoping there was going to be a schedule of some sorts. But there was nothing other than the agreement :(

Is there anyone that can shed some light on when we actually start? I am in the October Gateway Cohort and it looks like there is orientation on October 12---is that the day we start?

And is there any way to find out a rough schedule??

Any info will help! Thanks

I know that before I started at MCC last march, I was able to go to MCC's website and look up the Late Start Fall NUR 151 class, and it was fairly accurate for the date, days and times. Keep in mind, its not written in stone, but it was pretty close. Good luck!!

I am sure that this question has been posted, I just don't have the patience to read through 60 pages!!

Can anyone give tips on the interview? What questions are asked, etc.?

Thanks!

Specializes in PCU/ Pediatric CVICU.

Hi Melina-

I would be interested in meeting before school starts in late October as well. I live in Surprise and was thrilled to get into a cohort so close to home! BTW, if you search on EMCC site for Nursing classes it shows the times/dates for the classes for our cohort. Obviously things could change, but at least it gives us an idea. I sent my signed papers back today and can't wait to get started!!!

:yeah:
