I interviewed for the nurse fellows program through Banner about three weeks ago and still haven't heard anything! I was talking to another girl there for an interview who said that her friend (I know, I know, don't listen to anything like this, but I can't help it!) got a call a week after her interview offering her a slot. Has anyone else interviewed and heard anything?
I don't know why I'm so freaking out about it. I'm already accepted into Mesa to start in January (I deferred) but I WANT TO GET INTO THIS!
I actually (I can't believe I'm admitting this) read this whole thread. Two interview topics that I repeatedly saw were: knowing and discussing application of the Banner mission statement, and discussing how you'll be able to manage the demanding time requirements of the programs.
Good luck all! I am a new AZ resident (newly single mom moving back near family), so I will not be able to apply until the March 2011 cohort comes around. I WISH I were where you are right now.
I went back to most of the pages to see if I could find info on the determining factors for acceptance to the program but didn't see it mentioned before in details.. so here goes.... For those of you who were accepted, do you feel that your GPA and NET score had huge factors to being interviewed for the program? And how much do those factor in after the interview? Thank you sooo much!
Each part of the application process is equally weighted...GPA, NET, Essays and Interview. I had a previous BS in another science but also had a VERY GOOD TIME my first round of college so parts of my GPA were less than stellar however I feel I excelled in the other areas. Since starting back to school a few years ago I have proven to be VERY solid in my studies and enjoying it so much more this time around even with lots more responsibility outside of school.
IMHO Everyone who wants to apply SHOULD. We aren't perfect at everything and Banner is trying to find some of the nurses best suited for this program.
Thanks for your reply, Destinyfay. So when they say GPA of above 2.0, do they factor in GPA of pre-required courses or overall (all the classes you've ever taken)? I also have a B.A. and like you, I had a really good time during my freshman & sophomore years so I am bit worried if they are factoring in ALL of my college grade vs. pre-req GPA. The only saving grace I have is that since it'd been so many years since I took my science courses, I have had to retake them all - thus I have been able to finish them with A's this time around. Hopefully that will be good enough... Also, what are the 'average' NET scores of those that have been accepted to the program? Any thoughts?
TIA!!
Would a 3.0+ GPA in math & science courses give one a fair chance in the selection process? Or is it sort of like ASU where you really need 3.8+ GPA to even be looked at? I am trying to determine whether I should consider taking Algebra course that I took during first time around in school. :uhoh21:

I believe you would have a great chance. I had a 3.6, and score in the mid 900s for my overall NET score. I followed the advice given at the info session about keeping essay question answers; short, sweet, and to the point, and when you get your interview keep in mind that not only are they interviewing you, but you are interviewing them as a company to work for as well. Be sure to have questions ready to ask them. It will show that you have done your research on the company. They did ask me if I had any questions for them at the closing of the interveiw. I am so glad I did. I get to start in October. I am so happy to be by passing the long wait list. Best of luck to you.

I have a bachelors degree so I am assuming Gateway, but if they want me in the program I am going to ask to be put at Estrella because that is so much closer to my house. I live out in Surprise. I found out today that my interview is Monday at one. Yikes!
