Banner Nurse Fellows Program

Published

I interviewed for the nurse fellows program through Banner about three weeks ago and still haven't heard anything! I was talking to another girl there for an interview who said that her friend (I know, I know, don't listen to anything like this, but I can't help it!) got a call a week after her interview offering her a slot. Has anyone else interviewed and heard anything?

I don't know why I'm so freaking out about it. I'm already accepted into Mesa to start in January (I deferred) but I WANT TO GET INTO THIS!

congrats to all. i am so excited for you. my sil had her baby on thursday at banner desert. her nurse had a student nurse with teal scrubs on. she was a banner fellows and i had a great conversation with her. she said her experience has been awesome, she loves banner, didn't think she would like ob but loves it. she said once you start your clinicals everything changes and what you think you hate you might just probably love. i was there until 9:30pm and i saw three fellows walk out together from the maternity ward, smiling. the one i was talking to, saw me sitting in the little waiting area with my nephews, she came up to me and wished me "good luck". neat experience. so happy for all who have been accepted.

go out and celebrate, keep us posted.

This is my first post I found this site a few weeks ago while trying to find more info on the BNFP. I just got my acceptance letter today for MCC in March. My heart goes out to all who didn't make it this go around. Keep the faith and good things will come. I would like to hear from anyone else who has made it for MCC in March. :yeah:

Congratulations to everyone who got accepted this time around!! Just so the prospective applicants who didn't get accepted to the Banner Program but were interviewed don't feel like they are the only ones. I was interviewed a couple of weeks ago & I got my rejection notice today.:crying2:

I wanted to ask those of you who have applied more than one. Did you change you application essay questions? For those who have have interviewed & then not been accepted once, was it easier interviewing the second time? What do you feel made the difference in your interviews? I"ll try again for the July Cohort, while I wait for M.C.C. Did any of you take pathophysiology? I think I will take that class while I wait. Where did you take it? M.C.C. doesn't offer it as far as I can tell.

I have been following some of your postings & I am very HAPPy for all of you!!:yeah::yeah:

Ok, don't feel bad. I applied 4x's actually. I did write new essay answers each time. The first time, I was in provisional status. At the info meeting they said I could apply and my app would be held, but it was rejected. I don't know if my app wasn't good enough, probably not. The second time I applied, I got called for a interview, only to be called the next day to be cancelled. I was told that there was an error in calculating my score and I didn't qualify. They told me (under the table) that my GPA was a little low, my essays scored low, and my NET was just a touch too low. They said to try again. So I applied again in that same cycle, only to be rejected. During this time, I was applying to ASU so I had to take their NET which I really prepped for and scored higher on, re-took Chem which bumped up my GPA, and completed Patho with a B. I took it through RIO, not too difficult! So, on my 4th app, I turned it in with my ASU NET, and slightly higher GPA. I was focused on ASU, so only did it as a last ditch effort and basically forgot about it. I was totally surprised when I was called for an interview. I read through this thread for interview advice, and read over their mission statement the day of the interview. I went in confident that I was going to become a nurse no matter what, and thinking I had a shot at ASU (which I didn't) and that I was going to be placed on the MCCCD waitlist for Spring (which is actually unlikely), and my safety net was Gateway's LPN program, (which became a crap shoot). I actually mentioned all this to them in the interview, and that showed I was going to do this no matter what. So, I nailed the interview, and got my accepted with my #1 choice. Just keep plugging away at it. I started this journey 10 years ago, and while its taken me this long, the journey has been worth it. I am now in the best option for me, the school I want, my daughter's daycare doesn't have to change, I can quit my job to focus on school, everything is divinely appointed for me. Its totally a God thing for me! :heartbeat

To MessagetoRN thanks for the PM I cannot reply because I have not completed 15 posts. If you wouldn't mind sending me your email in a PM I would love to chat. Thanks and once again I would love to hear from anyone else who got in for March. Have a great day!

Thank You MassagetoRN I really appreciate your input. From what I understand you only interviewed once if this correct? I feel since my essay got me the interview maybe I will just tweaked it a little bit. I will be more prepared for my interview. How long was your interview? The applicant before me was out in 10-12 min. I was in there for a good 25 min. They asked me if I had a clear shedule & could proceed with this program, I felt I was going to get in. Maybe I talked to much? Did you go into your family when they asked to tell about yourself or did you stick to YOU! Did you have clear goals in mind for what you want out of nursing in 5 years, or were you a little unsure as we really don't know yet. So you just let them know upfront of your determination and what you did to get to that point? That's good, your were probably very sincere & honest. I have never worked in the medical field. I really wanted March at M.C.C. I am so happy for you. When did you put in you app. for M.C.C. I have a June 13, 2008 time stamp. Are the people with June time stamp (of 2007) getting in this time. I definately want to take patho I think that will help. Did you take it online? Thanks for all your help.

Thanks for the PM MessagetoRN. Yes my application was just time stamed this past June of 2008. So I won't move up M.C.C. list until maybe Jan. 2010. So I can still apply to Banner a couple of times before then. Thanks for the tips. I felt my interview went well. I realize the competition is tough. I haven't been waiting that long. I will take Patho. I hear that is a good class to get out a jump on things in nursing program. Did you enjoy that class? Did you take in on-line? How much work was it? Thanks again!:D

Thanks again MassageToRN. I registered for Patho 240 today @ Rio. It starts in March 2009. Thanks for the tip. I know it is good to have this class out of the way it will help. How many extra classes do you have to take to apply to ASU's nursing program?:idea: Extra one meaning on top of the one MCC requires? I do have a Bachelor of Science degree from ASU. I graduated a long time ago. I have just gone back to school to take the requirements for the MCC nursing program. Thanks for all you help.

Hope,

Yes, its a BSN. Check out ASU's website for accurate info, http://nursing.asu.edu/

If I remember correctly you need (in addition to MCCCD)

MAT 142

HCR 210, 220, 230, and 240

Plus some specific electives.

*** Warning, admission is super competative. They do a point system of your GPA (out of 4.0) plus your net scores as a decimal (ie. reading 85 = .85) for a total possible of 6.0 points. This Spring's cutoff score was 5.3ish.... so super high! ***** Good luck! :twocents:

To AZgal333 I got accepted to BNFP Gateway March 2009, anybody familiar with the curriculum ie: what block I+ II consists of & what hours are like? Iv'e got a 12yr old & a 9 yr old!! Summer!! Just trying to line out my support network in advance as much as possible. : )

They are reworking the curriculum so things have or will soon be changing. MY experience though. Block one you've got a lot on your plate as you get into your new schedule. You'll be in class two days a week and clinicals two days a week. Most of us had to spend a lot of time studying, memorizing health assessment steps and learning new meds. Then there are the dreaded careplans... they will take up a lot of time! Block two, if you have the same instructors, you'll have a LOT of out-of-class work to do on your own. More than half of the class material is online and you are expected to do it before the related lecture.

Plan on being married to the program. If you're the type of student who needs to spend a lot of time studying, you'll have a hard time staying on top of things. I figure you've got room in your life for one other time consuming endeavor... either family or work but if you have both, you'll probably struggle more.

I'm currently a block four BNF at GWCC. Good luck with your program. My best word of advice is to start doing NCLEX style questions now. You can get LPN level books for the first half of your education and RN level books as you progress. You should get one in your set of books that Banner purchases - use it!

MassagetoRN-

Hey! I put down on my app that I wanted the March cohort at GWCC. Also, on the top of my app I put that I have a bachelors degree. I got a call for an interview and she told me she wanted to interview me for the October cohort at MCC for people who have previous degrees. This is the first time that they had a cohort just for people with previous bachelors degrees. If you have a previous degree, make sure to put it on the top of your application! :)

whoabilly- so did you get accepted? Just wondering, I got accepted for march 2009 gwcc. I am thrilled and trying to get all of my ducks in a row prior to start. Do you have any idea what block I hours are like and what classes are in Block I? does it follow MCC orthodox? Hope you got in. Let me know! :nuke:
