I interviewed for the nurse fellows program through Banner about three weeks ago and still haven't heard anything! I was talking to another girl there for an interview who said that her friend (I know, I know, don't listen to anything like this, but I can't help it!) got a call a week after her interview offering her a slot. Has anyone else interviewed and heard anything?
I don't know why I'm so freaking out about it. I'm already accepted into Mesa to start in January (I deferred) but I WANT TO GET INTO THIS!
DisturbedEnergy, thanks for the reply. I love this site. I appreciate the tips. So if they are changing the program around I wonder what we will be doing first block? The CNA stuff? A friend in MCC regular said that It would be a good idea to study up on acid/base & electrolyte norms & abnorms etc studying up on the NCLEX questions sounds like a great idea ...I've got 4 months before program starts & I want to hit the ground running so to speak... In the "old days" the program classes were listed Psychiatric Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Geriatric etc...Now classes are just listed Block I Nursing Theory I Block II Nursing Theory II etc hmmm? wonder what the deal is there?
Thanks again.
That you AZgal333? Congratulations:yeah: to you!! Isn't it great! When you say you are accepted to Mesa Community College are you really talking about Mesa Southern & Dobson? or Gateway Community College? I was thinking that Gateway was the only program starting this March Hmm. I got into Gateway, for which I am ever ever so happy but if there was one starting closer in Mesa, I would have applied for that!!! oops. well I'm in and that is awesome. saw your shout out for any other cohorters and wanted to reply....let me know if you are really in Mesa CC or GatewayCC
whoabilly- so did you get accepted? Just wondering, I got accepted for march 2009 gwcc. I am thrilled and trying to get all of my ducks in a row prior to start. Do you have any idea what block I hours are like and what classes are in Block I? does it follow MCC orthodox? Hope you got in. Let me know! :nuke:
Badr, Im starting at Gateway in March as well. According to the Gateway website NUR151 is from 8-4 on Wed and Thurs starting on 3/23/09. So Im assuming that will be our schedule for block 1. Im not sure when our lab time will be scheduled. I guess we just have to wait for our information packet to arrive. Do you know of anybody else that got accepted for the Gateway cohort starting in March? Im interested to see how many of those students I know from previous classes.
lopezcc23, thanks that helps. Congratulations to you for getting into Gateway! I know of one other person named Mallory that got in for March GWCC as well. I don't know her personally but accidentally came across her facebook page that announced her acceptance. Anyway, I live out in the east valley and I took a "test run" out to GW to see how long it will take to drive out there in the morning. I was trying to see if it would be worth it to take the new light-rail or not. It took 40 min with traffic. yuck. Light rail doesn't seem like it will be much faster. Well, at least its only 2 days a week at that location. Do you know what NUR 151 consists of?
I was accepted into the Banner program in the Oct. cohort at MCC. I will be starting my 8th week in the program!!! I go to class on Monday's from 12:30-5, Tuesday's 2:30-5 (these are lecture days) and my clinical days are Wed.-Thurs. 7:30-3:30. It is tough, bit do-able!!! I love every minute of it. It is awesome.
Good luck and I hope you love it as much as I do!!!
I have a question for those of you who have already been interviewed. What kinds of questions were you asked in your interview? Can you please give me some sort of heads up as to what I should expect? I would greatly appreciate any help that I can get. Thank you!!!
And CONGRATS to all of you who made it in!!!

Badr, I looked up the class description on Rio's website. You can actually view a mini syllabus for NUR151. I would assume that the course competencies are the same. I live in Ahwatukee and the drive isn't too bad. See ya at orientation

You can expect to be in class two days a week and in clinicals two days a week through the entire program. The days will vary depending on what clinical options you have. Lecture days are roughly from 8a to 4p. It changes from block to block. Clinical days might be weekends, evenings, daytime, 12 hours, 8 hours. It all depends on what is available to your cohort and what specific clinical group you get into. You may not know your clinical schedule until a week or two before. It's like that through the entire program so do what you can to arrange a flexible lifestyle.
