Help failing block 1!!!
I am currently getting ready to wrap up block II at MCC. There has been a lot of discussion on the best way to study. I would suggest elaborating on lecture power points with the book materials. Go thru your PP's for the week and relate them to the reading material. I like to add notes and questions that might help to ask and review during lecture. How many tests have you completed? Have you just started for the block? It takes a little time to adjust to the type of test we receive in nursing school. They are much more challenging and the first block throws a ton of information at you each test. Just breath and the best advice is to practice as many nclex questions as you can get your hands on! They really help come test time. Good luck and don't give up, you can do it!

It is my understanding that the prescreen process basically consists of a combined score from your GPA + NET + essay questions. Based on the combined score from those three things you will either be selected for an interview or turned down. I have no idea how they go about scoring the essay questions. I would suggest re-writing those answers and applying again for the next cohort. Don't give up several people currently in my cohort applied multiple times before getting accepted. Good luck and nursing school is all about positive thought, so don't be down just figure out how to make it better for next time.

From what I understand we are going to have two full days of lab/clinical per week. I am not sure about our breaks I think it will be something like 2 or 3 weeks, but at X-mas we should get a full month (at least according to a friend currently in the BNFP at Gateway).

To Binzbee The NUR104AB class is not a required course it is an elective that Banner will pay for. My understanding is that the class will help you with critical test taking skills, so I assume that means they will help us learn how to test and note take for the nursing classes (look at the mini syllabus at MCC website). I'm going to take it since Banner is paying, heck it's only on Mondays for an hour. Hope that helps, See you all on the 11th! Hope that helps,

phoenix nicus
Keep in mind that everything is within probably an hour from Chandler, and only like 45 min from Mesa area at the longest, (our freeway systems are pretty good these days). Phoenix Children's at Good Sam in phoenix is a great NICU. I'm just starting nursing school but I hope to end up there. I have had two babies that spent time in the NICU and Phx Children's was AMAZING! I grew up in Mesa and currently live in Gilbert, I love it here and would never live anywhere else. I don't mind the commute since it is usually only 3 days a week, and if you work graves it's even better since your going against rush hour. Good luck either way and welcome to the valley of the sun.

The Sad Truth
You know this recession is not the result of George Bush right? It is the result of financial plans set into motion way before his term as president, all the way back into the 80's when Reagan was president. It has everything to do with the credit industry and nothing to do with the President. It is the banking system that has screwed us royally! They started making terrible loans to unworthy creditors and now we are paying for it. Are wars taxing? Yes, but this goes way deeper than just war debit. War debit is not the cause of our country losing its economy, outsourcing is. We stopped making US products and out sourced to China and Honduras. Now they are profiting from corporate out sourcing and we are flailing. I do agree American greed has paid a huge role in this situation! As a society we are afraid to work hard, everyone just wants a handout. It is such BULL **** for those of us who are responsible and pay our bills and make good decisions, why should we foot the bill for all those idiots who over extended themselves. I'm so tired of the american attitude. As far as hiring shortages I can only hope that buy the time I graduate I will be able to find a job. Relocation is not an option, but I am going the BNFP so hopefully my chances will be good once everything is said and done. The truth is even if I can't find a job after graduation I will at least have my license and eventually this will all bounce back. It could just take 10 years. YIKES!

Congrats on your acceptance! All the info I have for Block 1 is what they sent to us on Friday. Unfortunately I don't know anything about the instructors, but I'm sure they will be great. MCC has a great rep! I think some of us that are entering the MCC cohort are trying to schedule a meeting for this Tuesday, so we will post the info once we figure out a time. I don't know where you are located but we will probably try to meet somewhere by MCC. Hope to see you then.

Banner Nurse Fellows Program
I submitted my application around October 9th the cutoff for submission was October 16th. Then I heard back from them about a week after cutoff asking me to come in for the oral board. I heard about my acceptance just 2 weeks after that. So all said about 30 days from when I mailed in my application. I got the letter of acceptance and promissory note before Thanksgiving and returned it via UPS before December 1st, then I just received my admissions packet from MCC on Friday. I spoke to the rep from Banner last week and she said that she has not even heard talk of eliminating the program. So hopefully they will continue the program, especially considering that things could completely change by the time we graduate.

Hey just wanted to shout out to anyone who will be attending the MCC cohort. I would love to get together before class starts. I received my admissions packet today the schedule was included, so I will also be looking for some fellow students to carpool with. I'm in the south part of Gilbert right next to the 202. Congrats to everyone, it is going to be an exciting ride!

Check the Banner Nurse Fellows thread, it helped me out a bunch when I applied. Lots of good info, going back a number of years. The biggest think to do is read over the mission statement for Banner and relate the goals back to examples from your life. It worked for me, I start at MCC in March. Hope that helps.

Banner Nurse Fellows Program
I haven't received my Admissions packet and I called MCC shortly before X-mas, they stated that they had not received the information yet from Banner. They also informed me that things would probably post and be updated sometime after Jan 1st. I was getting worried so I have a call in to Banner, but have yet to hear back from them. Hope this helps.

Spanish for HealthCare Workers
I took Spanish 117 this semester through CGCC. It was a lot of work, but that could be because I haven't taken spanish in over 15 years and even then wasn't great at it. The whole class is taken online and we have to contact the Instructor once a week over the phone to practice. He has pretty limited office hours but I always managed to work it out. I think the 117 class at CGCC only starts in fall then the second half is 118 for spring. I'm not continuing on with 118 since our program at MCC starts on March 11th. Hope this helps and if you need a text book I have mine from this semester.

To MessagetoRN thanks for the PM I cannot reply because I have not completed 15 posts. If you wouldn't mind sending me your email in a PM I would love to chat. Thanks and once again I would love to hear from anyone else who got in for March. Have a great day!
