Banner Nurse Fellows Program

Published

I interviewed for the nurse fellows program through Banner about three weeks ago and still haven't heard anything! I was talking to another girl there for an interview who said that her friend (I know, I know, don't listen to anything like this, but I can't help it!) got a call a week after her interview offering her a slot. Has anyone else interviewed and heard anything?

I don't know why I'm so freaking out about it. I'm already accepted into Mesa to start in January (I deferred) but I WANT TO GET INTO THIS!

I got rejected as well. What are they looking for? I put a lot of effort into this thus far, and that to say the least was discouraging. I want to re-apply... is it truly that easy? What are some of the criteria on which the interviewers select people to join the cohort. Just curious. :banghead:

I think they are looking for diversity. My cohort started with several different ethnicities, a variety of previous experience from psych to sales and a wide range of ages.

I think I got in because I did well in prereq's, the NET and my experience is a bit different than most... I'm very much into holistic modalities and had my own practice before moving to Arizona.

Based on my interview, I thought I had missed my chance at getting in. I did competitive interviewing in high school... the BNF interview was by far the worst I've ever been through. I had actually started packing boxes and planned to move back home and start a nursing program in another state before I got my BNF acceptance letter.

So IMHO, you've got to stand out in some way. Something about you needs to set you apart from everyone else.

They just changed prerequisite requirements again at the community college level. Bio 202 and 205 WERE prerequisites in February so they were both required at the time you went to the information session.

Actually they changed the pre-requisites on January 1st 2008. So lots of people were asking about the pre-requisite and co-requisite requirements at the infosession. We were told that as soon as you can apply to MCC you can apply to BNF. They also said that Banner pays for you co-requisites if you take them while you're in the program. I realize that it's hard (if not impossible) to combine the co-requisites with the actual nursing program - however, I'm almost done with BIO202 at Mesa CC over the summer and I've already signed up for BIO205 during the fall. MCC decided to add my proof of registration for BIO202 and BIO205 to my application and send it through anyways explaining that I wasn't aware of the change in pre-requisites. I was just very surprised that they changed them, without contacting any of us who did attend one of those infosessions or without adding this information to their website...

I just finished block two at GWCC.

Congratulations On everyone getting in the fellowship program!!

I'm transfering from CA to AZ this fall to start the nursing program at Gateway.. I have one semester to knock out my pre-reqs.. What is the interview like with Banner? What are they looking for, what do they ask? Also howlong after you applied for the nursing program were you admitted?? I'm so nervous as this is a complete life change for me, one of the major reasons im coming to az is in hopes to get into banners program.. Please can someone tell me what I can do to increase my chances..

Read the suggestions from other peeps... something about you needs to be different from other applicants. Last year they asked the four same questions of everybody and they all revolve around the Banner Mission Statement. Know their mission and have life experiences in mind that reflect the kind of thinking that supports their stance. What have you done that shows you are kind, compassionate, caring, etc. They also want to know you can handle the load. It's not easy.

You might want to double check on whether or not Banner will pay out-of-state tuition.

I finished my prereq's in May and started in October.

Hello Applegate,

The deadline to apply for the October cohort with Banner is the 20th. Did you reapply? Do you know anyone else who did? Do you have any idea how to get another application or do we have to go to the orientation again? Sorry for all the questions. By the way.....are you having a great HOT summer?

I just checked the BNFP website and it looks like they are now requiring BIO 202&205 to be completed before you apply (as a previous poster stated). It is a new addition to the requirements and is in red font, so I'm pretty positive it wasn't there before.

I'm so disappointed... I have to take those two in the Spring because I'm taking 201 this fall, which means I can't apply for the July cohort. :crying2: I wish they would take into consideration that those courses will be finished by the start date, instead of only going by the application date (which is a month before the end of the semester).

Hi everyone! I am new here and I am so excited to have found this website. Everyone is so supportive and helpful here!! I am wondering about the Banner Nurse Fellows Program....

1. How many people do they interview to fill the 30 seats?

2. Do you have to get every question 'correct' in order to be accepted in to the BNFP?

3. What's the name of the lady that is the 'director'? She also does the information sessions....

4. Anyone else applying for the Oct. '08 Cohort?

Thank you :heartbeat
