U.S.A. Pennsylvania

I will be starting a job at Lehigh Valley Hospital and to be honest, I thought the pay would be better.

What's the average for a new nurse?

yes, it is in Philly and the Hosp is Hahnemann

At AGH in Pittsburgh a new RN earns 20.19 base salary. BSN is a little higher. I have a buddy that drives one of the parking shuttles. He clears about 150.00 per pay less than me. Better hours, too.

In Hershey the starting salary is currently $22.90, with the base getting increased every July.

thx for sharing. as close as i am to HUH, i'm not sure if i want to work for them.

why??? what's wrg

oh you have to know how to maximize your income. I know a RN making $100,000 a year...it is possible but you got to do research and make sacrifices if thats what your looking for :) If I were an RN I would not work for less than $32 an hr. Maybe thats just me....

jsu102- do you work at Hershey? I just recently took a job there!

Wow I thought it was a little higher than that. I'm in Hershey too, but still in school (prenursing right now). Are the salaries higher for night shifts? Are there differentials?

Congrats! I don't work there but volunteer at Hershey.

In williamsport, 23 and change to start...that's not too bad. I dont think. Plus a pretty well respected hospital. Anyone else from w'port?

mslady 06 if you are not a nurse then how do you know what to ask for as far as rates go...and then rn making 100,000 is she a new nurse or how long has she been in practice....jus askin

I can't work for less than $38/hr. I make $41 now at Lehigh Valley working 12 hour weekend nights. New grads start around $23. LVH is not known for high pay but is an exceptional place to work and a top 100 Money Magazine employer for 2006. You can make a lot of money there if you work the weekend program and do extra shifts. 48 hrs a week could earn you 100K/yr. You can get a weekend position after 6 months as a new nurse. So a new nurse can easily make 85-100k their first year.

quick question about salary.....if a nurse doesn't work the weekend night shift, do they still make decent money? what would be the round about salary of a nurse who didn't work weekends or nights? i guess what i'm trying to ask is if the only way nurses make good money is if they work weekends.

thanks
