Austin Community College 2019

Published

Hi Everyone!

I did not see a thread for applicants for spring 2019! I know its a bit early but since the deadline is in July I figured I would start a thread so we could talk about acceptance, application stats, etc. I'm planning on applying once I take my HESI. I hope to get in but I'm so worried!

How are ya'll feeling?

It's not terrible. You can pick which sections you want to do first, so really think about it. I did the sections that I felt most comfortable with so that I would see my grade and wouldn't get discouraged moving on to the next section. The reading part is looooooong. I saved that for last, which looking back I feel like that wasn't a smart choice because I was fried by the time I got to it.

Highly suggest buying the HESI book published by Elsever because they are ones who proctor the exam and the practice questions and material were very similar.

Good news is that if you fail one section, you can go back and retake just that section.

Also, don't freak out if you don't get an A. I missed it by an 89.4, went home crying my eyes out (lol kind of funny to look back on it now being that I'm a level 4 student), and sure enough I got in on my first try.

YOU GOT THIS!

So I took A&P I and II at a different community college and will be transferring it in. Im registered for micro and pharm for the fall and after that I'll be done! I really want to get two A's to bring my GPA up because I'm not too good at standardized test taking. I'm still currently in my A&P II class and it looks like I will probably get a B. Did any of you do your prerequisites at ACC? If so who did you take for Micro and Pharm? Do you think I'll be able to pull an A in these classes?

Hey I took pharm and micro at ACC. It kind of depends on where you live where the most convenient campus is. But I can't recommend Felix Villarreal enough for Micro. one of the BEST professors I've ever had! He's at the riverside campus. He's worth the drive. For pharm I had George Valdez and he's great too!!! he's at the south Austin campus. I got an A in both of the classes but Micro was definitely tough!!

Hey how many of y'all have gotten a petition email and signed up for classes? I got one but I was unable to take the nursing skills class during the first section of fall and so I have to wait to get my petition letter for the second fall section! I'm nervous!! What all do we need for the nursing skills class, scrubs, equipment?

I took nursing skills in the spring, you need scrubs an the book.

I have registered for Micro and Pharm at the Round Rock Campus. I am taking Decordova and Valle-Rivera. I looked at RateMyProfessor and they have pretty decent reviews. I'm just kinda freaking out now because I made a goal to get two A's to bring my GPA up to a 3.5 and it looks like I'll receive B's for both my A&P I and II courses. I plan on prepping for the HESI at the start of the fall semester and maybe taking it in November or December! So once you apply to nursing school you register for Nursing Skills so since I'll be applying at the end of the Fall semester does that mean I won't start until Fall of 2020?

Also, I'd love to make a group outside of this website to make friends throughout this nursing journey! Maybe a Facebook group so we can all keep in touch and maybe have study groups! Does that sound like something that would interest any of you guys?

After you apply to the nursing program then you wait for a petition to be able to register for the nursing skills class! If you apply at the end of fall you're applying for the fall of that next year, you'd be taking the nursing skills class in the spring or summer then, I believe. I'm not 100 percent sure, you'd have to check and stay up to date on the nursing website through ACC!! Good luck in those classes I'm sure you'll do great!

This is a great thing to do and I highly suggest it, but I would wait until you're accepted and make one for that specific class at that specific campus because things such as schedule and checkoffs are little different per campus. Study groups with people from a different campus doesn't work because the calendars are different... EVC may have cardiac and electrolytes week 2, but then CEC has that material week 10.

Our class has a FB page for RN EVC Class of December 2018 and we have almost all 60 students on it from our class but just our students. It's great incase you missed class then you can make a post looking for notes, having a hard time with a specific topic, or even if they change an exam time ( which they do this every now and again and forget to mention it) and someone will post the change on the FB page. We had a student almost miss an exam because she didn't know that they changed the testing time on the calendar and she would have gotten a zero on that exam if not for the FB page annnddd then we did have a student who missed an exam because they decided not to join the FB group and were unaware of the change.

So, yes, do it and encourage everyone from your class to join because you will use is a lot, but wait until you're accepted and know which campus you're at :)

So is anyone going to attempt to work while in Nursing School?

I think I may have to and I'm getting a little nervous about it. I've gone and essentially mapped out my courses for after I apply and get in and it looks like on the days I will have in school classes I'll get out around 2pm. But Clinicals I know are a whole different story...

when y'all took the nursing skills class what all did you need for the class?

I took Valle-Rivera and I loved her! She's so great at explaining things. But definitely try to go to every class bc she sometimes gives in class activities and those are easy points. Always do the extra credit and homework, those are easy points too. Don't be afraid to ask things in class, she's so easy to talk to!

Hey! I applied to the spring 2019 semester in about July and was given notice to do the TBON fingerprinting, but have not heard anything yet about the RNSG 1105 petition. They said they will let us know by the last week of August, so I'm getting a little nervous. If you applied once the deadline got extended. Have you heard anything yet??
