Austin Community College - ACC - Spring '11 hopefuls

Published

Hi ya'll-

Thought I'd get this started for the rest of us who, sadly, did not make it in for Fall 2010. I'm hoping to re-submit my application for Spring today (or this week). Does anyone know, do we receive the form from the nursing office? Or, is this something we should grab from the website?

My score upon re-applying will be 54.899. Dang, sure am hoping this will be high enough and get me in this round!

How's everyone else holding up? Did everyone complete the pre-req - 1105 already? I have not and won't (due to extenuating circumstances) until early Fall. Will this negatively impact my chances of getting accepted? According to Tammy and the office, no. But, wanting to get everyone's input. Hoping we will hear about acceptance by Sept. Does anyone know this date for sure? The application period closed July 15, don't know why it takes them so long to get this word out.

Anyway- good luck to you. This is my 3rd round of applying :( so I sure am ready to get in and get on with this career change!

Minor updates to ADN "Update" page today...not anything earth-shattering, but now says we should know "in September" not "by the end of September."

Hope that means we might know sooner!

Once again I will say that I am very impressed with the amount of updates and info we are provided with this time around! I am glad to hear that all applications have been finalized and they will post a notice on the week we should get emails. So much better to hear all this from the department itself rather than word of mouth. Hopefully all these updates have helped resolve the problem of students calling with tons of questions which are found on the website. Good for them!

I'm really grateful that they have this update page. I think it answers so many questions and at least gives us an idea of when to expect answers. I don't feel like i'm in the dark with deadlines or that I don't know what's going on. I hope they stick to it! :)

For those who have started nursing skills, how do ya'll like it?

I've only had one class so far but it was fun. I'm looking forward to the next 9 weeks. All the girls in my class were really nice so it should be a great class.

Can anyone tell me the difference in CEC, RR or Hybrid?? I am trying to decide what the best route to take is for Spring. I want to have it decided, so when I get my acceptance letter and can respond immediately. I have heard CEC is great...

Hi, jschutze! I was up early today and saw your post -- hope you don't mind a newbie-Level 1 jumping in. :)

RR is an on-site program, like EVC is. You take classes and have labs at the RR campus. The labs are all brand-new and have sim mannequins. The campus isn't 100% complete yet (i.e. no food service), but it's very nice.

Hybrid is the online option, which is what I do. We don't have regular theory (lecture) classes, but we have labs at the RR campus. It requires a lot of discipline to get through the theory portion without direct guidance, but we have a very active discussion board on BlackBoard, and the instructors are pretty much always accessible. (One of ours works nights, and told us if we were studying at 3 a.m. and had a question, to text her!) It's definitely not for everyone, though.

CEC is an on-site program held at Brackenridge. A lot of people really like this option, and I know several of the Fall 2010 starters from AllNurses chose it.

There is some discussion about the different campus options here:

I hope this helps!

Thanks!! I was wondering if you choose RR or CEC, How many hours of class time per week are required? Anyone know? I think I heard that clinicals are 2 days a week. Curious how many days theory class is?

jschutze - They actually have the Fall 2010 calendars posted for both RR and CEC onsite options on the ADN website. That can give you an idea of exactly the days that lecture meets, labs, and clinical days. Looks to me 2 days of lecture, one day lab, 2 days clinical. Check it out!

Thanks a bunch for all your info! It really helps!

Trying to decide between RR onsite or CEC. Have heard great things about both. Is anyone at RR or CEC that can give me some pros and cons???
