Austin Community College - ACC - Spring '11 hopefuls

Published

Hi ya'll-

Thought I'd get this started for the rest of us who, sadly, did not make it in for Fall 2010. I'm hoping to re-submit my application for Spring today (or this week). Does anyone know, do we receive the form from the nursing office? Or, is this something we should grab from the website?

My score upon re-applying will be 54.899. Dang, sure am hoping this will be high enough and get me in this round!

How's everyone else holding up? Did everyone complete the pre-req - 1105 already? I have not and won't (due to extenuating circumstances) until early Fall. Will this negatively impact my chances of getting accepted? According to Tammy and the office, no. But, wanting to get everyone's input. Hoping we will hear about acceptance by Sept. Does anyone know this date for sure? The application period closed July 15, don't know why it takes them so long to get this word out.

Anyway- good luck to you. This is my 3rd round of applying :( so I sure am ready to get in and get on with this career change!

Has anyone received part of the lab kit in the mail at home yet?? I haven't and I was just curious if anyone else has.

I haven't, and I'm glad you reminded me of this...I totally forgot I even ordered it! Where the heck is it? I thought it was supposed to be here by now.

OK, so I just checked the ordering instructions and it says they'll ship on 1/12. Looks like we're still on track!

Where exactly are the study and learning guides?

I don't know if this is what the OP is referring to but our syllabi and lab guidelines (including everything we need to know for physical assessment) are now on Blackboard for us to print out.

Just to give a suggestion, I strongly suggest you at least read and/or finish the study and learning guides for the first week of class assessment modules because If you walk into the first lab and lecture without doing it you may struggle and become very overwhelmed with the amount information they will throw at you and the time restraint you have to remember everything for check off. The first week of class was very stressful for everyone in my class because of the assessments we had to learn in 3 days. I did the modules before class and I was prepared but people who didn't do it were oblivious to what they should do because our teachers didn't walk us step through step, we worked with a partner. Wish you the best of luck! First week is very stressful but everyone gets through it.

Wow, thank you Jackfackmasta!!!

Great! Thanks! I never even saw that date before! I guess I can breathe now.

I haven't seen anyone start the fall '11 hopefuls so I figured I would ask my questions here. Should I do my reapplication bow with a 53.73 or wait till I finish my nursing skills class. Anyone have any advice for Darby/Wards nursing skills class? I start tomorrow and have already done the first 2 modules. I'm just really nervous about this class since it's the first real nursing class. Thanks in advance

Hi bluetrumpet, as far as Nursing Skills....don't worry too much about it. Darby/Ward are really easy to get along with. I took the class last semester and was really nervous..they made it really easy. They are not as tough as others, but very helpful and really want you to succeed as a nurse. Just make sure that you don't miss a class/lab. Use all the time you have in lab to pratice & also go in & practice during open lab times. This will make you feel more comfortable with your skills. They both really helped me when I had problems & they were really nice about it. I thought they were pretty cool. Sometimes it seemed as if we were a little lost because they really didn't have their stuff in sync, but it worked itself out in the end. As far as waiting to reapply until you finish, I can't really say. Turning in your application the first day really helps with placement. I got in with a 52, but who knows what the cut-off will be for Fall. Good Luck.

Hi, bluetrumpet!

Did you do HESI already? HOw was it ? any tips? thanks- thanks!!! I am applying for fall' 2011 too :heartbeat

tat_nurse:

I took the HESI last year I believe. I thought it wasn't as hard as everyone made it out to be. I recommend buying the study guide on the website and go over that as much as possible. Make sure you are comfortable with the math section. Also, only study the A&P, math, and reading section in the study guide. The rest is useless and wont be on the test. GL
