Austin Community College - ACC - Spring '11 hopefuls

Published

Hi ya'll-

Thought I'd get this started for the rest of us who, sadly, did not make it in for Fall 2010. I'm hoping to re-submit my application for Spring today (or this week). Does anyone know, do we receive the form from the nursing office? Or, is this something we should grab from the website?

My score upon re-applying will be 54.899. Dang, sure am hoping this will be high enough and get me in this round!

How's everyone else holding up? Did everyone complete the pre-req - 1105 already? I have not and won't (due to extenuating circumstances) until early Fall. Will this negatively impact my chances of getting accepted? According to Tammy and the office, no. But, wanting to get everyone's input. Hoping we will hear about acceptance by Sept. Does anyone know this date for sure? The application period closed July 15, don't know why it takes them so long to get this word out.

Anyway- good luck to you. This is my 3rd round of applying :( so I sure am ready to get in and get on with this career change!

Oh yeah...one more question for you. Any idea from those you know who took hybrid classes as to how much time they actually spent on the campus where hybrid was housed? I live about as far away from Round Rock as you can imagine and still be in Austin, and if that's the campus where hybrid is offered, it may be prohibitive for me unless I'm not going to have to spend a lot of time there.

Thanks for your candid feedback! Are you at Seton main? I volunteer there on Sundays! I am hoping to be in hybrid, too, I think--I need to work while I'm in school--so maybe we can get a study group going if I get in for Spring with you. :)

Yeah I work PRN on the oncology floor at Seton Main, I am actually working there this Sunday day shift.

As far as how often hybrid requires you to be on campus, I believe it is maybe one or two days a week for labs at the start, then once the semester gets going it is cut to only one day a week. Looking on past calenders found on the hybrid option on the ADN website, it looks like most Mondays and Tuesdays are done on your own time and some Mondays have exams for a couple hours on campus later in the semester. Clinicals are usually Wednesdays and Thursdays for the most part. Of course this calender is from a year ago. With the opening of the new program in Round Rock, I am not sure how much exactly that will change. I have a really good friend who is starting hybrid in August and believe me, I am going to be asking her! I will let you know what she tells me once the semester gets started for her.

Are there any links that give us the differences between Hybrid, CEC, EVC, and RR? Are they just at different locations and the hybrid one has online classes?

How long does it take to find out if you can petition for RNSG 1105?

Anyone have any suggestions on instructors for the Nursing skills class?? Waiting for the petition to take it this Fall.

Do y'all think we'll get our 1105 petition emails this week? Getting real antsy... :yeah:

From what I understand, you're correct. There are links to registration for each campus on the ACC ADN site, and you can check out their bulletin boards, but it doesn't really break it down for the prospective student...just those who are registering.

I hope we hear about 1105 petitions this week! I'm guessing they are waiting until summer grades are finalized, though...so that may delay things.

For those of you waiting for RNSG 1105 petitions, the RN website was updated saying petitions will go out by August 1st and don't call the office to ask for a petition.

Thanks Radiation!

I just received my ranking calculation in the ACC gmail. Somehow, they forgot to include the speech class that I took at the beginning of the summer, so I had to request that Tammy redo it, but I'm excited to see that things are finally happening. Honestly, I thought I would be a shoe-in for the Spring '11 semester, but even with the new new spaces available at RR, I'm a little worried. My new score will be right at 51.5 or so, and that is just BELOW the scores that were accepted for the Fall '10 semester. I'm also looking at UT's AE MSN program, but after reading all the good reviews about the ACC program, and talking to everyone, I'm going to be perfectly happy with either program. It is the just the waiting that is killing me. Good luck, everyone. :)

Thanks Crispier, Good Luck to you too! I hope that all of us get in and maybe with more spots they may lower the ranking you need to get in-one could hope!! lol. Has anyone received a petition yet? I'm just so anxious and they are really cutting close to the wire or it could be I just didn't get one.

When I applied for Fall 2010 my friends and I applied on December 18th, about 10 minutes after we completed the HESI. We didn't get our emails to register for RNSG1105 until January 4th and I got my email at 930 pm!

Here is what the email said for those of you who are curious :

Attached is your ranking calculation for the December 15, 2009 - March 1, 2010 review for your fall 2010 application. This calculation includes the following: completed degree plan course grade point average X number of degree plan courses completed + HESI points + review points = ranking calculation. This number does not indicate your actual ranking status on the list.

Please review your calculation and if you think there is a discrepancy, contact the Nursing Office via email ([email protected]) within the next 5 days.

Letter grade values: A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, CR indicates credit. CR is only factored into the number of completed degree plan courses and not the GPA.
