Austin Community College (ACC) - Fall 2010 Hopefuls

Published

I'm a Fall 2010 applicant at ACC and thought it would be nice for all the Fall 2010 hopefuls to have our own thread to share exciting news, information, and support with each other.

I turned in my application last Friday (Dec. 18th) after taking the HESI exam. I feel good about my scores but I anticipate competition for the Fall spots is going to be quite fierce. After that large applicant pool for Spring I think we will see a lot of re-applicants applying with the 5 extra re-application points. Not sure what that will mean for the ranking scores but it will be interesting to see . . .

Good luck to all the Fall 2010 applicants!

radiation alerted me this afternoon that the nursing dept. posted another update to the acc adn website.

no new information really - just an announcement reaffirming that they will be sending out notification letters *by* june 1st and details for spring 2011 applicants interested in taking rnsg 1105 in the fall.

"official letters will be sent out by june 1st."

and

"fall 1105 petitions will be coming soon. students will be notified via acc gmail accounts."

so anxious to find out one way or another - i am terrible at being patient! :uhoh3:

I still wonder if "by June 1" means "on June 1." If not, that would mean we'd hear May 28, since the 31st is a holiday ...

I've got my backup plan in motion ... I have my spring reapplication ready to turn in, and I registered for an early summer session of speech so I can replace my existing B for that class. If I get in for fall, I'll drop it.

32 days until June 1! What are y'all doing to keep yourselves from obsessing?

How I keep from obsessing (as IF there is really any way around it! :)) . . . I'm focusing on my Spring classes, a little travel, work, and enjoying every moment with my family.

Purkinje - is it even worth it to spend the time and money retaking Psych? I mean with the reapplication points and the addition of an 11th class (with RNSG 1105), just those added points should bump your score up significantly (and I seem to recall it not being too bad in the first place!) if you do need to reapply for Spring 2011.

I'm in agreement that the notification will likely happen before Memorial Day or around the 28th.

We're down to LESS than a month now!

Good luck all!

I'm guessing that the people that get accepted will have their letters mailed out first and i would expect to hear something around the mid of may like may 15 or something since that seems like what other applicants got from other posts. The declined letters probably would be mailed last. I really doubt they'll mail them out the last week of may. In addition maybey we'll get an e-mail notification before we actually get the letters cause i know in another post one person had gotten the e-mail before the letter. I probably wouldn't take the speech class over because it probably won't increase your points that much, by no more than 1 point. If you take nursing skills by the first summer session and make an a, that in addition to the 5 reapplicant points will give 6 extra points. It is up to you depending on your score but if the reapplicant points and nursing skills gets you like a 55 or above i wouldn't do it to save money and time.

I think we will get the email first, then the official letter in the mail a few days later. That is usually how it has happened in the past. As for me, to keep myself busy, I have a full time job at an oncology clinic and I have been working lots of extra shifts at Seton on the weekends for my second job. It has been crazy busy but it definitely helps make the time fly by!

It's not a massive difference in my reapp score if I retake speech -- 1.9 points. But I sort of want something school-y to do if I don't get in for fall; I feel like I'm getting out of practice.

To keep myself from dwelling the wait, I've been going to the gym a lot more often. I'm also trying to transition into running for my cardio instead of spin, since that will be easier to fit around classes ... I did the Capitol 10K for the first time this year. :)

I agree with Jackfackmasta. We'll probably start seeing the letters in about two weeks or so. I can't stand the wait, but at the same time, I can't believe it's almost time to find out once and for all! Finally! So far, my kids along with my classes for the spring have kept me too busy to dwell on the wait, but once classes are over, I know i'm going to be checking my emaill and the mailbox like crazy!!!

I haven't formulated any back-up plan. I plan to take one short class during the summer, regardless if I get in or not. Then, if I don't make it, I'll just register for a couple of classes in the Fall and keep myself in school/study mode.

Hey, I was thinking about finding a (very)part time job for the summer and maybe through nursing school. I really would like some hospital and patient experience, so I was thinking I could be a CNA since I've finished 1105. Anyone have any recommendations of good places to work? Thanks! :)

Well if its almost 2 points then you might as well do it so you don't regret not doing it and missing the cut by 2 points. People always regret the things they didn't do rather than what they did do so you should do it for yourself. People will need every point they can get if we don't get in this fall because it will only be more competitive in the spring at the cutoff score will just rise higher.

I really really really hope you guys are right about emails in two weeks -- that would mean we'd get notice before the reapp period opens.

Jack -- every time I've taken the "conservative" approach (i.e. retaking math for an A even though the adviser said I'd be fine with the C that I already had), I've ended up being really glad I did!

Well, I've gone back to the 2009 fall entrance postings and according to that people were getting acceptance e-mails around may 7. maybey they will stay with the same dates. Hopefully next week the e-mails will come. pray jejus!

From my expierence last year, we were told that we would have our emailed letters by May 1st. Then they bumped it to May 7th. And at about 4:45 on May 7th the emails went out for the acceptance and at a few minutes after 5 the rejection letters went out. Then on the 8th, those who were rejected (including me) got "informational letters" that told us what our ranking was and what our options were for reapplying for Spring semester and what we could do to boost our points. (Happily for me, I only had to wait about 2 weeks to get accepted into the Fall semester because of deferrals or opt-outs!)

If the ADN office is saying "By June 1st" I wouldn't hold my breath for mid-May!

I agree with mwski. Maybe it was a typo to say "BY June 1st." Who knows, I have my heart set on first week of June so I won't be disapointed if we don't find out late in May. I did find out that if we are accepted, our all day orientation will be Thursday August 19th. I had to email them and ask because I am planning a last great vacation before life hopefully changes forever and didn't want to be gone and miss the orientation. I am trying to think positive! ha! Love the drama!
