Austin Community College (ACC) - Fall 2010 Hopefuls

Published

I'm a Fall 2010 applicant at ACC and thought it would be nice for all the Fall 2010 hopefuls to have our own thread to share exciting news, information, and support with each other.

I turned in my application last Friday (Dec. 18th) after taking the HESI exam. I feel good about my scores but I anticipate competition for the Fall spots is going to be quite fierce. After that large applicant pool for Spring I think we will see a lot of re-applicants applying with the 5 extra re-application points. Not sure what that will mean for the ranking scores but it will be interesting to see . . .

Good luck to all the Fall 2010 applicants!

Hey everybody, I've noticed in some of the later posts that people have been able to get the prn jobs as CA at Seton by someone they know and I have applied to several spots for that but I only have 2 applications that are in the final screen and it seems like every time i apply, they hire someone like the next day. I don't have like an CNA certification or anything and just have my 1.5 years of experience in the ER at St.David's and nursing skills class in addition to my BLS. ST.David's wants to hire me to the ER prn but there's no openings right now so they can't do anything and I have applied for others ones. I would love to work at Brack since im a trauma junkie and was wondering if anyone can help me out or point in the right direction because I'm dying to work prn as a CA or PCT and get a job this summer in case i get into nursing school this fall. I would really appreciate any input. Thanks alot!

I too have applied to a few jobs at Brack and it seems to be going no where. Four of my apps say final screen. It also seems St. Davids isn't hiring many techs right now. I wonder why?? Ugh, I could really use a job, preferably in a hospital. I have completed 1 semester of clinical rotations, so you'd think that would be good enough!

haha in the same boat, here.

two of mine say final screen, and three say "hold" which i think means they are already offering the position to someone else. i don't know what the trick is to get hired by seton.

i was offered a prn position at st. davids before i started nursing school, but i declined it, because i wanted more hours than they could offer at the time. now i really need a job.

I think the Seton experience of applying and sitting at the "Final Screen" stage is fairly common - happened to me with several applications too.

Finding a PCT/CA position in this market seems to require either a personal contact on the inside, training (like a CNA license) PLUS experience, or a little of both. I've also been told recently by a few reliable sources that the hospitals are leaning more towards hiring individuals for specific shifts because their PRN pools are quite full. I also heard that the hiring managers recently seem to prefer hiring those who are not already in Nursing school (especially with that as their only experience) because they realize that they will invest money in training/benefits only to have that person leave in 12-24 months to transition into their Nursing career.

Also, if you can't find a hospital job, there are lots of other healthcare opportunities in the area. After feeling like my hospital apps were at a standstill I accepted another position. I learned a great deal there and the experience helped me secure a great position at a local hospital just months later. So even if your ideal job isn't the first one presented, don't pass it by without considering that it may just be a great stepping stone towards what you really want. :)

Apparently today is the day, check the ADN site, and goodluck to you all!!!

If I remember correctly, they wait until the END of the day, like 4:30 or 5. Probably so they can run out of the building and avoid all of the phone calls. Good luck every one!:redbeathe

Thanks for the heads up!

Question -

Does this mean that those who don't make it in this round will not receive an email today?

Good Luck Everyone!

I'm so anxious for everyone! Good luck!

Yes, everyone will get a email that applied- I think they sent out the provisional acceptance emails about 30 min. before the denial email.

Don't fret if you get a denial email, I got one, and two weeks later was offered a spot. :)
