hi, anyone of you here joined the open house today and was able to fill in an application? after filling out, they gave me this envelope with some papers about the pharm bok review, etc.. as i was reading it, it says, we'll gonna have ourselves scheduled for the pharm exam.
QUESTION:
do we have to wait a call from them (if chosen)?
this does not guarantee that you are hired right?
please enlighten me..thanks =)
goodluck to us =)
Just an FYI and an update to all the posts saying all that is needed is to pass the pharm exam and the reference check.
It was confirmed this morning with Jennifer Clem the following:
Not all attendees were interviewed. Not all the were interviewed received packets. Not all that received packets will be given second interviews. To quote: You will be notified regarding the status of your application.
It's in all of our best interests to continue applying for positions. Even passing the pharm exam and the reference check does not guarantee a job.
Good Luck everyone.
SuperwomanRN,
It is a good hospital. I did my clinicals there and it was a really nice. The staff are really supportive and open to teaching you. It is also a union position. So fingers crossed. I know the struggle. I have been applying to alot of places lately also and alot want the 1 year experience in med surg, but none willing to give you the chance. Thankfully NYHQ is .... best of luck!
Omg! But the ones who was not interviewed was sent home, and also if you had an ASN ( unless you had experience). Yea, the guy who was giving the application basically said mostly its the exam and reference check.
******* is the administration director and nursing administration. . Her card is on your packet.
I would take what she said over the man handing you the application.
All I'm trying to say is, remain positive, however there is a process.
BTW, lots of places are starting to prefer nurses with 2 years of experience as opposed to 1 year. It is not common right now, but it looks like this is the trend considering the surplus of new nurses and it is also a way to get nurses to establish retention on and off the resume (especially when new nurses fly the coop after the magical one year experience, maybe now it will be a magical two year lol).
But dang, 5 references?? I dont even think I know 5 managers to give me references (from the ONE nursing job I have ever had). Did they specify who these references can be from? Clinician who is a direct supervisor of course, but what about educators, CNS, nurse manager, preceptor? Also, what about a colleague that has been a charge nurse over you? How about a past clinical instructor? Sorry, not used to hearing for 5 references, that is a lot. 3 was enough trouble when I applied for my present job. And then following through with them to make sure they were completed? Oy!!
I remember NYHQ when it was Booth. Always had a decent rep. So, if one gets into NYHQ does that mean that applying later on for a job @ Weill-Cornell (for instance) would be considered a transfer (considering both hospitals are in the NY Presbyterian system)?
I agree with Paco, I have seen a lot more job postings and open houses requesting 2 years of experience, Up until early this year it was only 1 year of experience. Also not only do they want 2 years hospital experience but they also want it in the specific department...ie if you did medsurg 2 years you would not qualify for ICU, if you did Mother/Baby for 2 years you would not qualify for NICU. So even having experience does not open that many doors, if you did not start in ICU cannot get into ICU unless you get lucky and your own hospital transfers you in.

I heard the same thing. that you have 24 hours to complete the references email that they send to you. I also heard its better have to managers do them on your before rather than colleagues. I hope we get this. But is it two weeks or one? I heard that if we study the packet we should be fine.... but still nerve wrecking. No body knows how long it will be until we get an official job offer??
