Atheist Professers

Nursing Students General Students

 Hi everyone! I'm kind of new here, and I have a question: Right now I'm in A&P and my professor is an all out atheist. I realized when I decided to go the nursing route I would encounter many scientific minds, but whew! How do you fellow believers keep this from getting to you? Just a little friendly conversation starter, not trying to start a creation vs evolution debate. Hope to hear from yall!

Did your teacher really say that? wow! That is unprofessional. I don't agree with teachers putting down the beliefs of others. If his/her comments really bother you, it may help to have a talk with your teacher. Good luck. :)

I love that Cheerfuldoer!! I'm going to put that on my locker at work.

It was my pleasure to share it with you all, and you may feel free to use it as much as you like anywhere you like. :kiss :nurse:

No real scientist would "denounce" anything without a hypothesis qualified by a well designed experiment.

There is no such thing as "myth" in science.

He sounds like a liberal arts major, not a scientist.

My Anatomy prof was a "christian" but we discussed the connections that both sides have to eachother with scientific fervor. By the time that class was over we all had seen it from a diferent angle.

That is what class is for.

Like I would give a rat's A$$ what the instructor believes or not!!

As long as I take the course and pass it, It's all good. I do not feel that you have to deal with him in any other capacity than to listen to his lectures study your book and pass A&P..... If you get an evaluation form after completion of the semester. then fill it out accordingly.... But, I would not even waste my time pondering the small stuff.... Just keep focused on the reason you are there.

peeps.....in answer to your above questions, i share this with you. someone emailed it to me the other day, and i copied it to keep for my own personal use:

it's titled "i am a christian".

when i say..."i am a christian"...i'm not shouting "i'm saved"...i'm whispering "i was lost". that is why i chose this way.

when i say..."i am a christian"...i don't speak of this with pride. i am confessing that i stumble and need someone to be my guide.

when i say..."i am a christian"...i'm not trying to be strong. i'm professing that i'm weak and pray for strength to carry on.

when i say..."i am a christian"...i'm not bragging of success. i'm admitting i have failed and cannot ever pay the debt.

when i say..."i am a christian"...i'm not claiming to be perfect...my flaws are all too visible, but god believes i am worth it.

when i say..."i am a christian"...i still feel the sting of pain. i have my share of headaches which is why i speak his name.

when i say..."i am a christian"...i do not wish to judge...i have no authority. i only know i am loved. -- by carol s. wimmer :kiss

renee, thanks for sharing "i am a christian". i am passing this on.

Here's my advice:

1. Go to class.

2. Take notes.

3. Study hard.

4. Do well on your exams.

5. Learn a lot.

Tried the above with my Muslim chemistry prof and it worked wonders.

If the guy is attacking you then report him, but otherwise treat him like you would anyone else--believer or non.

Debralyn: People different from you aren't confused, just different.

Indeed-- One local group leaves stuff on my doorstep (apartment complex) since they're too cheap to use the post office. I called them and told them to ask jesus to quit littering with his good news on my door. And the last one that woke me on my day off...mmm, let's just say she won't be coming back.

I would note that prof's comments on the eval's though. He needs to respect other people's beliefs if he wants people to respect his. Just my 2 cents :).

Brian

Indeed-thanks, I know how you feel. I think everyone would be surprised at just how many nonbelievers there are out there if we all felt like we could express our opinion freely without fear of disapproval.

Hello Brian...studentOH :)

I just wanted to comment on your one statement above which is why I erased the part that didn't concern me.

I would like to think that adults are wise enough to discern the differences between 'THOSE THINGS MAN DOES' versus 'THOSE THINGS JESUS IS ALL ABOUT'.

Jesus is NOT the one "littering" your doorstep...He would NOT do that because He never went where He was not sent, or wanted.

Those are simply "human beings" on a mission of their own who are "littering" your doorstep. They do NOT represent Jesus.....so please try and refrain from blaming THOSE PEOPLE's issues on Jesus. Thank you! :)

Hello AmberNoel :)

As a Believer myself......I am NEVER surprised at how many Non-Believers exist. Why would we be surprised? Afterall.....it was a nonbeliever (Madalyn O'hara) who had "The Lord's Prayer" banned from schools across America. :o SHE was only ONE person who took America by storm, and ended prayer in American schools. Another nonbeliever has made his case known very recently.......trying to eradicate the saying of "one nation under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag in schools......won his case in a district of CA......but will the Supreme Courts rule in his favor again??? Time will tell.

I wish people would STOP blaming God...Jesus...for things THEY had nothing to do with! :( Human beings are known for "jumping on their bandwagon of many causes".......raise enough stank about them.....and walk away feeling as if they 'kicked butt'. God......Jesus.....The Holy Spirit.......are NOT the image of man...man is the image of God......only man chooses to ignore that image, and follow their own destructive path to hell. But everytime I turn around........SOME MAN or WOMAN wants to blame God...blame Jesus.....for their woes. :nono: That is soooooo unfair........so not right........so human to do so. HAVING SAID THAT........God -- Creator of us ALL -- does NOT need DEFENDING by any man, woman, or child.........and one day.....we will ALL know why for it will be revealed to us IN HIS PERFECT TIME.....NOT ours........whether we Believe......or NOT! :kiss

Cheefuldoer-

umm hello-- I do not know why you think that I am blaming your god for anything. How can I blame a being that I don't believe exists? However, I CAN blame people who come to my house invading my privacy. And for some strange reason they have all been from the local Baptist, Church of Christ, or non-denominational churches in my area. I know that you were responding to my post but most of your response has nothing to do with my post.

O'Hare did not single handidly get prayer banned in school. Do you think that the Supreme Court would just bow down and rule in ONE persons favor? She was not the only one who believed prayer in school was unconstitutional. She was just the one person brave enough to challenge it. And she faced an unbelievable amount of persecution for it. Children are in school for eight hours a day. There is no reason to include prayer in school. There is plenty of time to pray outside of school OR say a prayer silently at anytime they please in school. I have heard the argument for a "moment of silence." Children can be cruel to other children who are different. So while everyone but the few nonbelievers are having their moment of silence, the nonbelievers stick out like a sore thumb.

I am sorry if this post sounds confrontational but reading your post was like listening to you yell at me. I have read many of your other posts about various subjects and I think that you have a lot of wisdom to share. You frequently give great advice to those in need. So please don't take this personally.
