Atheist Professers

 Hi everyone! I'm kind of new here, and I have a question: Right now I'm in A&P and my professor is an all out atheist. I realized when I decided to go the nursing route I would encounter many scientific minds, but whew! How do you fellow believers keep this from getting to you? Just a little friendly conversation starter, not trying to start a creation vs evolution debate. Hope to hear from yall!

amblessing.....no offense taken. :) We Believers and UNbelievers can just "agree to disagree" on this topic of different beliefs.

The ONLY part of my post comments above that I directed to you were in regards to the portion of your statement I carried over from your other post comment which you can read at the beginning of the post in question. The remainder of my post comments are just personal beliefs coming from my heart.....sparked mostly by what Brian the studentOH said. No harm done......:) :kiss

Do Christians actually believe they will get converts by pushing their beliefs on the "nonbelievers"? I just don't understand this tactic. Where there is no proof that God exists, wouldn't it make much more sense and create alot less hostile feelings toward Christians if the believers just let people be and accept religion on their own? Do Christians believe because someone forced it on them? I really doubt it.

Hehe renee, I know better than that. Just wondered what they'd say to me...the pamphlet did say "Good News from Jesus."

I think if Ker-ker would have been more specific with her teacher issues she could have avoided starting arguments. It's one thing to have an atheist teacher, it's another to have a teacher regard you as a moron for something as personal as one's religious beliefs. If she would have let us know the prof was calling her core beliefs and values a "silly myth" I would have backed her 100%. I've been belittled by teachers for being gay, vegetarian, insertreligionhere (studied them all at one point hehe), male nursing student, you name it from 1st grade through the present. I never took any crap from any of them and kerker shouldn't either.

Off topic, since leaving the church i was forced to go to for 17 years and being able to study on my own, I'm finally coming to peace with what exactly I believe. I do consider myself a Christian, but I rarely disclose it to anyone and have no plans on returning to church because of past experiences. Any faith, when followed personally and with true intentions, can be a wonderful link to beauty, peace, and hope. I never meant to degrade His name or intent in any way.

Brian

p.s. I also firmly believe that He has a twisted sense of humour, look around hehe.

Thank you for the use of your paragraph. Sometimes we...as human beings...need to see ourselves portrayed on the "other foot" for a change in order to understand one another's ideas and thoughts. :)

Ditto Brian.........and God DOES show His SENSE OF HUMOR in our lives......quite often, too! :chuckle :)

I don't want to stray too far off topic here...but since it appears we already have....

I owe my Christianity to a nutso girlfriend of mine who kept annoying me (a pagan/wiccan) with "testimonies."

One night we were hitchhiking to a downtown watering hole/pickup joint, and she said, "I need a husband. I'm praying for a husband! God, please get me a husband."

I shook my head. "You might as well pray to that telephone pole, Linda; there is no God."

She knelt down and said, "I won't pray to the telephone pole, but I'll pray to God, right here and now..." and she did.

I was sooo embarrassed.

But on Monday, she got a phone call from an old high school buddy. And they were married within the year.

And when my marriage was on the rocks, some of the things she was saying, began to make sense. I realized then that I had been "culturally brainwashed" to believe that I shouldn't need a man, that abortion was ok, that God was dead.

Had she not been such a good friend, I never would've tolerated her emotional outbursts of "witnessing." And I'd be a very miserable person today--if I survived that abusive marriage at all.

Not trying to convert anyone....just trying to say that you never know if someone's going to witness to someone and suddenly it all makes sense like never before. It happened to me, it's happened to a lot of people.

And frankly, I don't see what the heck is so bad about getting a tract on your doorstep. Someone from this board has registered me for free Mediao stuff from various websites, and all I have to do is hit the delete button, or censor that horoscope, or not watch the latest horror flick, or whatever..... not a big deal. We all do it all the time. At least Christianity is not as big a ripoff as those $1500 vaccuum cleaners they keep trying to sell me.

No disrepect, but atheists and agnostics rarely push their beliefs...that is my point.

All those unsolicited intrusions you mention above DO bother me and alot of other people. We shouldn't have to accept that it is going to be pushed on us. We can now block those annoying telmarketers with programs that have been invented to keep them from reaching us. I'd be happier if we made a bit more progress in blocking messages that come from a few other sources, too. If I want it...I know where to find it myself. And, to me, Christianity is as big of a rip off as those vacuum cleaners, because unlike a vacuum cleaner, I can't use it.

I can see where religion gives you comfort and I think that is great for you. I don't mean for this post to sound so harsh. I merely mean to say I want to make my own choices and don't appreciate others interferring, especially when it involves invading the privacy of my home.

No prob, sbic, i've been where you're at too. I don't mean to offend anyone either, ok?
