ASU Summer 2010 Program Applicants

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hello, everyone!

I submitted my application for the accelerated Summer 2010 program at ASU awhile ago, but I just realized that the February 1st deadline was coming up and wanted to see if anyone else here on allnurses.com applied or is applying. I'm so nervous, I've already applied once and didn't make it--I really, really, really, REALLY hope I can get in this time. :uhoh3:

I'm already starting to get impatient waiting for April!!! My whole life is on hold until then! I hate that I can't apply to any other schools because I'm stuck waiting for ASU and I don't want to pay a bunch of application fees if I make it into ASU regardless. :( Don't get me wrong, though, I really want to get into ASU's program. I just want to get into nursing, really. It's just a little annoying that we will find out about getting into the program so late in the year :banghead:.

Regardless, GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! :heartbeat

What scores are you all applying with?

Ya thats the plan. Thinking about joining the service when I am done to pay off school. Sounds like you where in the service, you think it's worth it.?

Sounds like a good plan. Joining the military was the best decision I ever made. Getting out was a pretty good one too though! haha But going in with a degree and therefore an officer, is a different experience than what I did. I was an enlisted soldier and I was also in the Infantry so an enlisted Infantry and an Officer RN are two COMPLETELY different worlds in the military. I say go for it. I would do it if I wasn't already getting my school paid by the Army. How long do you have to commit for to get them to pay off your loans (I assume this is what you are talking about)?

Almost $115k for 4 years w/BSN. I want to hold out untill I am a CRNA though

Wow, two guys so far. It's nice to see the men stepping up :)

You might look in to going in as an RN and then having them send you to become a CRNA. Look in to it a bit, but I believe there is a Naval school in San Diego that trains all branches for CRNAs. Something to consider, its definately free then and you will have housing/food/pay taken care of.

And $115k? Is that a bonus? I didn't think it was even possible to have that high of student loans for a BSN. I'm a little confused.

Haha, we try. I wonder how many more there are.

It looks like they increased it from the last time I looked at it. I will put the link to here too. The Army has a CRNA scholl as well as the Navy. If I went in as a RN then went to there school would owe them more years?

"ACTIVE DUTY HEALTH PROFESSIONS LOAN REPAYMENT PROGRAM (ADHPLRP)

Wow, $120k for a 4 year Bachelor's degree? Holy cow that's a lot of money!

I was actually going to join the Air Force after graduating with my BSN... it's been a dream of mine to be a nurse in the Air Force for years, hoping to serve my country and become a flight nurse one day. I was totally crushed when I found out that I'm most likely medically DQ'd. :( The recruiter I talked to said I could try to go through MEPs and see if they'd give me a waiver, but they're filling quotas quite nicely nowadays with the economy and all so she said I probably wouldn't get a waiver. :( C'est la vie.

And I agree with scperez11! Congrats on stepping up. Personally, I'd love to see more guys in the field simply because I can only imagine how much unnecessary drama is around the workplace since it is saturated with so many women haha! I hate the stigma that nursing is a woman's job; there are plenty of men who excel at nursing, and I am sure there are many cases where there are male nurses who do better jobs than the female nurses in many hospitals. :)

@CRNA, yeah I imagine there probably is an additional commitment following completion. And I'm guessing they have the amount at $120,000 for all the post-grad stuff.

@Pineapple, the AF and Navy have always been difficult to get in to because of their small numbers and high amounts of people who want to join. The Marines and Army (more so the Army) have less people in comparrison interested in joining. This unfortunately makes it hard to get in, yet alone if there are any issues. But being in Nursing is going to be a complete 180 from my military experience. My job in the Army did not allow women, so I was always around a TON of guys and hardly any girls. Now its completely reversed haha. So are the intentions of my job description now that I think about it.

thanks pineapple and scperez11 it was kind of weird at first going to a woman’s field of work at first. i was a truck driver for many years. i have been working as a cna know for a year and i enjoy working in this field.

totally jealous! i'll be going sometime next week, hopefully. i really can't wait until i get the scrubs, especially! :) i was also curious about what you mentioned earlier about your experience in the army... women weren't allowed where you were? do you mind me asking what it was that you did? or is it a national secret? :p haha, totally joking. that will be a bit of a culture shock going from all/mostly guys to all/mostly women!

that's great that you have cna experience! i am sure that is going to help you a ton. i was going to go to cna school this semester, but i didn't really have the money for it and the time-lines for the schools in the west valley weren't really matching up with what i needed.

amen!!! :yeah:
