ASU Fall 2010 Hopefuls

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Ok gang, now it's our turn to start sharing information, tips and score ranges for those applying to the ASU (Arizona State) upper division nursing program for the Fall 2010 semester.

With the new TEAS testing requirement, I'm not sure we can apply to our situation the historical score ranges from the past (when they had to take the NET) so let's all share information and support for those of us applying for advancement.

I took the TEAS today got an 85.3% composite score. Both the program and national percentile scores were 98%. I'm applying with a 4.0 GPA. If this was a NET score submission for the Spring 2010 semester, I'd be right on the bubble. I'm wondering how others are scoring on the TEAS and if anyone's heard of any nuances in the application of those scores to our overall advancement scores. I'm under the impression that the Program Percentile score is pretty important as it is the ranking within our program exclusively - does anyone know if that is correct or not?

I recall that there will be only 60 advanced into the upper division program this Fall so I know the competition is going to be stiff.

If anyone has any information regarding scoring, numbers applying, numbers to be advanced, etc, please share! It's a long way off until they let us know where we stand - It will be nice to have a forum where we can bounce off one another.

Good point.. Might be worth the phone call! Please post if you decide to call and I'll do the same. Good luck to everyone!!

"Don't be ****** off because you are afraid you wont get in."

"Hey guys! expect the letter tomorrow :yeah: it will be mailed today. Don't expect the cutoff to be low:nurse:'

"Mayo is my top choice. Mayo is the place for top people. This is what my advisor told me. "

"I know so far 30 people have 87% and 4.0 GPA. I don't mean to scare people but this is what I know so far. "

"Hey guys! call 602-496-0888 Student Office to know the cut off, ranking, and when the letter of acceptance will be mailed! :yeah: " ????????????

"I think you need to have at least a 3.8 and 85% or more on the TEAS V in order to be competitive. If you don't have this, don't waste your time and money on the application process."

"I am telling the truth. This program is very competitive now. There are 80 seats. You must have high status and ranking to apply. Let be realistic, would you apply with a 3.5 and 80% on the TEAS?"

"Please don't bring NAU into the ASU discussion. Seriously, I live in AZ for my entire life and never heard of NAU before. I googled it and found out that NAU nursing program is not that HARD to get into. Many students are applying to this program because it is easy to get into. FYI students applied to ASU nursing program will never give up their seats because IT IS THE TOP PROGRAM IN AZ! "

"Obama would say your information is "MISGUIDED" In general, if you spent the past 2 years working as hard as you could then you should have a 4.0 GPA and a high test score. If you have a low status, you could still try and apply. However, it would be pointless and waste of time. Instead, you should try to retake classes or improve your test scores. Remember don't engage in a battle unless you are certain that you can win. :nurse: "

"I am a single mother and BORN in the U.S. I do not need support and assistance from others. I know I can get in without breaking a sweat. I do not care about your comments. We will see who get into the program! Maybe I will see you at the finish line? :nurse: (p.s if you are going to use :nurse: please choose a male one) "

"I never heard of NAU because it is not a top school. I do not need to research other options because I am a top student. I could get into any schools I want. NAU's program is very easy. The application cycle for ASU is open every semester. How could that be a long wait? I do not need luck:cool: "

"How do I know all of these info? cuz I have been contacting people and advisors. I just wanted to share with you guys!"

.......I rest my case.

Ok I just got off the phone with ASU...

The letters were mailed out this morning and the advisors don't know the cut off scores. They won't find out the scores until a staff meeting tomorrow and they aren't allowed to tell us over the phone or in person until Thursday. However if your letter arrives tomorrow then obviously that won't be an issue.

Good luck to everyone here! We are almost there!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! Nice Wantanabe! That's great! Made me laugh. Thanks,

Josh

Honestly guys, this thread has deteriorated to some nasty, immature comments.

If you think getting into nursing school is rough, well, let's just say NS is the easiest part of nursing and let it drop.

I wish you ALL luck.

traumaRUs -

Thank you for your points of clarity. With my head bowed and my tail between my legs, I apologize.

For those of you who have come to this site for the reasons I did - for information, support, encouragement and friendship - I apologize for my part in taking things down the wrong road.

I am very protective of my friends and fellow students who have worked so hard up until this point (I guess it's the big brother in me).

I understand and share the uncertainty, anxiety and frustration everyone is experiencing in this long wait to find out what's next for us.

In the next few days, we will all know our fate.

For those who make it, congratulations! You have worked so hard, jumped so many hurdles, navigated so many barriers and endured the constantly changing landscape that is ASU nursing. In this first step, you've achieved something wonderful and every one of you should be proud. Really proud. I sincerely congratulate ALL of you.

For those of you who don't make it this time around, don't despair. This is simply a bump in the road. Take some time, give yourself a chance to process the news and then resolve to do everything in your power to improve your chances the next time so that you will be one of those moving on. Revaluate your situation and take the steps necessary to improve your chances. Leave nothing out. Be realistic, self-evaluation is difficult. If you're weak on a certain section of the TEAS exam, work at improving your understanding of that material so that next time, you score higher. If there are other areas you can work on to improve your submission score, work on them. Talk to those who were accepted, those who were not. Look to family, friends and fellow students for encouragement and support. Don't give up.

Good luck to each and every one of you.

Now.......where's that mailman?!?!?!?!?!

I also apologize. I came to this site for the same reasons as everyone else... To get support. I feel bad that things ended up the way they did, so Ryonaki, I'm sorry. It was very childish of me. Good luck to you and everyone! Like Wantanabe said, if you don't make it this time around... focus on your weak points and nail the Teas next time! Eventually, we will all get in with a little work. Again, good luck to all!

I got in cutoff is 5.569 :yeah: I won't be going because I am going to medical school this fall. Good luck to all:yeah:

Really? cool, that means I got in. Good choice for you Ryonaki! I wish I was a little younger and I would take the same route. I am planning on becoming a Nurse Practitioner with a concentration to psychiatrics. Good job and congrats!
