Ok gang, now it's our turn to start sharing information, tips and score ranges for those applying to the ASU (Arizona State) upper division nursing program for the Fall 2010 semester.
With the new TEAS testing requirement, I'm not sure we can apply to our situation the historical score ranges from the past (when they had to take the NET) so let's all share information and support for those of us applying for advancement.
I took the TEAS today got an 85.3% composite score. Both the program and national percentile scores were 98%. I'm applying with a 4.0 GPA. If this was a NET score submission for the Spring 2010 semester, I'd be right on the bubble. I'm wondering how others are scoring on the TEAS and if anyone's heard of any nuances in the application of those scores to our overall advancement scores. I'm under the impression that the Program Percentile score is pretty important as it is the ranking within our program exclusively - does anyone know if that is correct or not?
I recall that there will be only 60 advanced into the upper division program this Fall so I know the competition is going to be stiff.
If anyone has any information regarding scoring, numbers applying, numbers to be advanced, etc, please share! It's a long way off until they let us know where we stand - It will be nice to have a forum where we can bounce off one another.
I got into mayo and am now having a panic attack! Is mayo harder than the downtown program? Does anyone know what to expect or has spoken to someone who has done the mayo program? There is literally NO info that I can find that is helpful.

First of all, take a deeeeep breath! :hug: Getting into the Mayo program is a big honor because it is a very, VERY competitive program to get into. So congratulations!! However, after looking through the past conversations it seems as if ASU failed to specifically give information about the Mayo program and for that I am deeply disappointed in ASU and can only imagine how scared/confused you are! I'll tell you what I know about Mayo, and I'm going to ask a friend who is at the Mayo campus to see if he'd be willing to field questions from you. I'm sure he won't mind you asking him questions, but I don't want to give out his email address without him knowing first, lol!
Now about Mayo. This is all information based on the programs that have already started; I don't know if they've changed anything for your guys' program, but I don't see why they would. Then again, this is ASU, so no guarantees... lol!
Is it harder?
No, it's all the same material that is taught Downtown, so the curriculum really isn't very different. There are three big differences between the two programs, however:
The classes for the Mayo program run in the evenings and on the weekends. You won't have class during the morning/early afternoon, and expect to do clinicals and classes most of the day on Saturdays and sometimes even on Sundays.
The Mayo program goes through the summer, which means you'll be graduating a semester early! Hooray! So you'll be starting this Fall 2010 and then graduating in Fall 2011!
All of your classes will be at the Mayo campus so you will NOT be going to ASU for any of your classes (yay, no outrageously expensive parking decals!!). However, some clinical sites may be off-campus at other facilities or hospitals due to space limitations and whatnot.
Other than that, I don't really know. :uhoh21:
Have you tried calling Student Services and asking about the finer details? They are REALLY helpful and are used to getting all kinds of questions--don't be worrying about asking a "dumb" question! There are no "dumb" questions! I would definitely suggest calling them and getting more details because even based off of what I have told you and what the person who is currently in the Mayo program may tell you, it could be completely different than your program.
I also know that in the past, you can petition for a variance to switch programs. However, I think you have to have a pretty solid reason for trying to switch over, but I don't know. If it sounds like Mayo won't work for you (time issues, etc.) then it wouldn't hurt to ask Student Services. Seriously, there are there for you, so use them! They're a great resource to have :)
I hope this helps! Don't be daunted by the Mayo program just because it's at Mayo. You've worked hard to get to where you are, so don't doubt yourself. You've come way too far to be doing that! :)
Hey, thank you I really appreciate it. Asu has approx two paragraphs about the mayo clinic on their website. I'm sure we will hear everything at the orientation but I like going into something new knowing everything possible about it! Thanks again, I feel calmer already!
For all of you that have gotten accepted, Congratulations! I agree with everyone else that there is almost nothing you should be doing right now other than enjoying the time you have because honestly, Nursing school is ALOT of work. Organization is key. Finding a good way to balance study time with all the classes and your personal life is a must. But understand that if you wish to succeed in the Nursing program, you will not have much time that isn't dedicated to school.
So that being said, sometime between now and when your classes start, get on to Blackboard and play around with it, especially those, who like me, had never used it before. Once your classes are up on there, go there, read everything, print the calendars and syllabus and all that stuff. Get yourself organized with folders and everything. Your lab (320) will have lots of papers so I suggest a big folder/binder for that one. Also, apparently we had readings that were sort of expected to have been read before the 1st day of class. A lot of people did not know this, but you might want to check on that and stay ahead of the game. Finally, talk to your doctor about possible getting on some sort of benzodiazepam (you'll learn this in Pharmacology this semester) to help with the anxiety! :) Kidding, but by staying organized and on top of stuff early it will pay off as the semester progresses. With projects and assignments, get them done early. It's tempting to put them off because you feel so busy with other stuff, but honestly, dedicate the time and do them early because about half-way through the semester (where we are now) it seems that so many due dates of things are converging. If I hadn't of stayed on top of my stuff I would probably be losing it a little right now.
So thats the biggest bits of advice I can think of for right now. It is a good program. Just understand that JR1 semseter, while it is Nursing school, is probably not what you will think it will be. It's alot of the foundational stuff. You are just learning the basics to be able to go on from there to the fun stuff. Or at least thats what I think. Anyways, take this summer and live it to its fullest. Drink a few ones for me, since I never have the time and we only get a weekend off from this semester to next so that should be fun.
Has anyone gotten that email we were suppose to get yesterday? The one with the registration info. I never got it so I was wondering if I need to call student services or not.
Oh and when the book list comes, if you guys have the money and can afford it, I highly recommend the book package from the bookstore (Elsivir package) because the e-books they come with are VERY useful
I was wondering if anyone knows about the shoes we are supposed to wear. It says that they are supposed to be white and leather. Do you think that it would be ok if they have just a little color on them? You think that they are strict on that sort of thing?
