traumaRUs - Thank you for your points of clarity. With my head bowed and my tail between my legs, I apologize. For those of you who have come to this site for the reasons I did - for information, support, encouragement and friendship - I apologize for my part in taking things down the wrong road. I am very protective of my friends and fellow students who have worked so hard up until this point (I guess it's the big brother in me). I understand and share the uncertainty, anxiety and frustration everyone is experiencing in this long wait to find out what's next for us. In the next few days, we will all know our fate. For those who make it, congratulations! You have worked so hard, jumped so many hurdles, navigated so many barriers and endured the constantly changing landscape that is ASU nursing. In this first step, you've achieved something wonderful and every one of you should be proud. Really proud. I sincerely congratulate ALL of you. For those of you who don't make it this time around, don't despair. This is simply a bump in the road. Take some time, give yourself a chance to process the news and then resolve to do everything in your power to improve your chances the next time so that you will be one of those moving on. Revaluate your situation and take the steps necessary to improve your chances. Leave nothing out. Be realistic, self-evaluation is difficult. If you're weak on a certain section of the TEAS exam, work at improving your understanding of that material so that next time, you score higher. If there are other areas you can work on to improve your submission score, work on them. Talk to those who were accepted, those who were not. Look to family, friends and fellow students for encouragement and support. Don't give up. Good luck to each and every one of you. Now.......where's that mailman?!?!?!?!?!

I'm so surprised how few people are participating in the thread. I've used it as a lifeline. I've been watching it since is was first started but have only recently began to participate. It's the first thing I look at in the morning when I log in and the last thing I look at in the evening before I power off. Since school has been out, it's been one of the only sources of information I've had. I've kept in touch with a couple of classmates who applied, but for the most part, this is it. If you're one of the "lurkers" out there like I was, jump on in and add your comments - it really helps to "talk" out some of the anxiety! We're getting close!!!!!!:grn:

Regarding the "I know so far 30 people have 87% and 4.0 GPA"......consider the source. Not terribly reliable in my view. ATI offers a study guide along with McGraw-Hill. It's probably not a bad idea to get both. ATI also offers an online TEAS exam simulation (for a fee) that really helps getting used to the actual testing process. It's a little like studying for the SAT or ACT test - lots of general knowledge stuff. You get two chances with the TEAS at ASU, but my advice is to prepare like you've only got one shot at it - prepare, prepare, prepare. If you get a good score the first time out, great, no pressure on the second try where you can do even better. It's not easy but you CAN do it. Keep your focus...... Good luck!

wow, where to begin. i’m not really sure if the ryonaki character is a put on or not. i guess i’ll start with ryonaki’s response to yelnikmcwawa’s thoughtful post. for someone who tries to come across as well informed and all knowing, it’s a little hard to believe you’ve lived in arizona all your life but you had to google “nau” because you’d never heard of it before. all your life in arizona and you’ve never even heard of nau? in case you were unaware, there’s also another university in southern arizona called university of arizona. it’s located in a city called tucson……google it. that your google search resulted in your new found knowledge that nau nursing is not that hard to get in to is not hard to believe. through google searches, you can also find information indicating that the oil spill problem in the gulf of mexico is a hoax, we never actually went to the moon and that same moon is actually made of cheese. in fact, if you look, you’ll also find discussions that indicate asu’s nursing program is not the top program in az! now understand, i am applying to asu’s nursing program and am proud to be a sun devil, so i’m all for talking up the program, but what do you have to back up your assertion that asu is the “top program” in az? i mean other than google. one way to measure a program’s success is by looking at nclex pass rates for first time applicants. if you had done that, you would know that asu’s are not bad, but the other university i mentioned above has had consistently higher pass rates since 2004 (and it really pains me to write that). so on an objective basis, i’m not sure you can honestly say asu’s program is “tops” – good, but maybe not “tops”. yelnikmcwawa’s comments regarding alternates are well founded. in years past, asu has also maintained an alternate list for those who just missed the cut, allowing for coverage for those who pulled out of the program for one reason or another. if you search the forums on this site, you’ll see a number of postings from applicants who got into the program in this manner. i also know there have been a few applicants in years past who qualified on gpa and test scores, but were eliminated because their applications were incomplete. ryonaki responds to one of my previous posts by referencing president obama’s “misguided” statement (as it applied to arizona sb1070). i assume this technique is used to provide credibility by association. unfortunately, the context is so far removed from this discussion that it simply falls flat. ryonaki is selective in what was included from my original post, then comments on that selection exclusively. that works sometimes, but when the reader can simply scroll back up the page to read the original posting in its entirety, it exposes ryonaki’s weak arguments. unless this individual has inside information related to advancement, there is no way to know where the cutoff is, and therefore not submitting an application would be foolish. pointless and a waste of time? i think not my friend. your final statement that you should never enter into a battle unless you know you will win is extraordinarily telling. i’ve never looked at this process as a “battle”. a challenge perhaps, but a battle? and being confident is a great quality, but if you only participate in processes that you know you’ll win, what’s the point? have a nice day!

Ryonaki: No disagreement on the program being competitive - extraordinarily so. Would I apply with a 3.5 and 80% on the TEAS? If I'd spent the past 2 years working as hard as I could and wanted to get into the program - yes I would. I mean, why not? As I said before, "You don't KNOW what the cutoff is - no one does at this point. Why not wait until the results are out for those who have applied for advancement before making broad statements?" I've also monitored threads from other programs around the country and in general, the scores on the TEAS V were NOT in the upper 80's in many cases from what I've seen. In fact ATI Testing acknowledges that the average scores are down almost 10 percentage points from the TEAS 4. Look at the program percentile scores to get a better idea of the ranges nationwide. Now I'd like to think we're exceptionally smart here at ASU, but I've got to believe at the end of the day, the range of scores here will reflect what is seen across the country. Most importantly, we don't know what kind of GPA or TEAS score yelephant has, so it's impossible to tell where he/she fits into the discussion. But even if we did have those details, unless you've compiled the GPA's and test scores from all 175 applicants, you can't know for sure where yelephant or (Ryonaki or wantanabe) will eventually end up. The only "truth" at this point is that it is extremely difficult to get in to the program, beyond that, no one really knows for certain. I do sincerely wish you the best as I do everyone going through this process.

Ryonaki: This post comes off rather condescending and dimissive to someone looking for support and information. The point of this site is to support like-minded individuals in their particular situation as it applies to their career in nursing. Telling someone not to waste their time or money on the application process because of your perception as to where they rank in the advancement process is at the very least a bit presumptuous. You don't KNOW what the cutoff is - no one does at this point. Why not wait until the results are out for those who have applied for advancement before making broad statements? You indicated that MOST students applied with a 4.0 and very high TEAS scores. In another posting you indicated that you knew 30 people who scored 87% on the TEAS and had a 4.0. If the number of applicants truly is 175 as has been previously posted, those 30 people you know would account for less than 20% of the total number of applicants. That's hardly MOST from where I sit. Frankly, most of the people I've talked with or heard about DON'T have a 4.0 GPA and scored UNDER 87% on the TEAS. Just so you know, I do have a 4.0 and scored higher than 88%, so I'm not being defensive, I'm just offering my perspective. You indicate the NET exam was easy compared to the TEAS. Personally I don't know, I didn't take the NET. Perhaps you did and so you can speak to that, but in the end, it shouldn't make that much difference. If the NET exam WAS that much easier, it just meant the cutoff score for those with a 4.0 GPA would have been higher on the NET to be advanced. It's all relative in the end. TEAS or NET combined with the GPA to come up with an advancement score. yelephant - it is true that this is a very competitive field and that you will have to work hard for advancement. That just makes it so much sweeter when you do advance! Don't give up and don't let anyone tell you that you're not going to be competitive - again, at this point no one really knows. Work hard, study hard, retake the TEAS and bump your score up if you're not happy with what you got the first time. I have monitored the Fall 2010 thread since it began, and if you go through all the messages, there really aren't that many people who have posted their GPA and TEAS scores, so it's really hard to tell at this point. I agree with your statement - there are many people in the same boat. You do your best, watch your critical class scores and be confident. Ryonaki - I hate that it seems like I'm beating up on you, but come on, you can offer opinions and advice, but be constructive and lighten up a bit. Good luck to EVERYONE!
