Assignment for class, Two questions

Published

I have an assignment for class we have to ask two questions to see what kind of responses we will get.

Q#1 With all the up roar about the H1N1 vaccine do you think it is right that they add it to the seasonal flu vaccine and not give people the opportunity to chose whether they get it?

Q#2 How are you studying/did study for the NCLEX?

... That just don't sound right to me, and to double up on virus could mean more money to combine the 2 vaccines together, and a whole new guide line, interactions, storage, and a whole bunch of money for research and development so... I would say keep it separate.

questions, questions, and more questions, did I say questions??? and reviewing on my week points I.E mental health!

One thing that has to be said is that you absolutely CANNOT force people to obtain immunizations that they do not want to receive. Our job is to educate patients on issues concering their health not force things down their throats. One of the biggest problems I see with this idea is that many people may in turn refuse the seasonal flu shot because they don't want the H1N1 vaccine. That would more than likely cause more harm than it does good.

Adding the H1N1 to the seasonal flue vaccine may appear as a method to trick the public or to not allow them any choice in the matter. Being the most trusted profession in the country we have to allow our patients to make the best decisions for them based on the best information that we can provide them.

1. Besides the potential for interactions, getting an immunization is an option. As another posted mentioned, our job is to educate the public about the benefits and drawbacks of any immunization, not to force someone to get something they don't want.

2. I used multiple review CD's for questions - Saunders, Kaplan and a couple of other sources. Also participated in the ATI review offered by my employer which generated more and more questions. My preference was for the questions that gave immediate feedback with the rationales. To me that was more beneficial then reviewing the questions later after I had answered about 75-100 of them.

I pretty much agree with everyone else on the vaccine issue. Nobody should be forced to get any vaccine. I don't agree with either vaccine but I don't think they should be mixed. As for the NCLEX question...I'm not there yet. Good luck!
