Ask for a grade increase in anatomy?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi... this is my first post. I constantly read the boards, but wanted some advice!

I'd like to get into an accelerated nursing program once I finish up at my current school.

I withdrew from anatomy II during the spring semester. I was constantly sick and just couldn't do it. I figured out the root of my sickness after various doctor visits. I took it over the summer at a community college (for financial reasons, I attend a private aka expensive school).

I got a B and was .5 awa from a B+. Is it worth e-mailing the professor and asking for a way to get that .5 points, or to look at my test to make sure I didn't incorrectly bubble something in (if you circle something correctly on the test, and bubble in incorrectly she will give you back points).

I don't want to seem like a grade grubber or beggar and have never been in this situation. I just think its an important class and it would look better if I had that +.

Thanks!

I definitely would not ask her to up my grade. I guess it couldn't hurt to ask for a recheck of your test, though.

In my A & P II courses, if we participated in class, did our homework, etc, he would give us any extra points (within 1 or 2) we needed to get a better grade.

Hey! I don't think your teacher will boost your grade, but it NEVER hurts to ask! I just finished A&P II. Good luck!!

I would definitely go in and ask to look at your exam. The grader could have made a mistake and accidentally marked something wrong, it happens. I know professors hate it when students go in and argue with them about a few lousy points, but who cares. You're only asking for a B+. Go in, tell them how hard you worked and how much you enjoyed their class, and you never know, they might bump you up.

I have found mistakes on Scan-Trons where I changed my answer but the machine counted it wrong because it read it as I answered it twice because unless it is erased perfectly it picks up both marks. But never enough to change my grade.

Thanks for the advice. :) I sent an email today asking if I could review my scantron and hopefully try to find a question wrong (its all I need to get a B+). I'll look at the graded lab section and short answers, but I didn't want to make it seem like I was blaming her for grading wrongly (which I'm not).

I realize there has to be a cut off and someone has to have the high B, I just wish it wasn't me!

Is a B+ actually going to make a difference? I mean, we get points on our GPA for A, B, and C. No A+, A, A-, etc.

Yes it can make a difference. If my instructors use the + and - system then our gpa reflects that. For instance a B in a course could give me a 3.0 however a B+ would give a 3.3, and while an A is 4.0 an A- is 3.7 gpa. I am not sure how this works in my nursing courses since this fall will be my 1st semester but it has made a difference in my pre-reqs.

OP: It never hurts to look it over. Good Luck I hope you are able to get the grade you need. If not don't worry a B is good as well.

Is a B+ really going to raise you GPA anymore than just a plain B? If not, then that just seems like too much work

LOL. I got an 89.9 which is a B+, 90.0 is the A, do you think the teacher cared? NO! He doesn't believe in rounding.

If you received the .5 away and the teacher didn't give you the extra points, that means it's probably a done deal. You can email your professor, but be prepared for your emails to get ignored since, I'm assuming, it's the end of the semester. Most professors will ignore all emails during that time.

Every school is different, one school I attended didn't give out pluses and minuses. However, there is a difference in calculating your overall GPA and those pluses do add up in boosting that overall grade.

Then I guess it depends on the school because my school sure doesn't have anything like that. So fighting for a B+ would be a waste to me. An A is a 4.0, a B is a 3.0 and a C is a 2.0

In your case fighting for a "+" would be a waste, because it's non-existent at your school. :lol2:

However, for students where the grading scale includes pluses and or even minuses, the fight maybe worth it. But, they must be prepared if they lose the battle.
