As a registered nurse would you ever take a job as an LPN? I'm not asking IF you can take a job as an LPN (legally and all that), I'm just asking if there are any RNs out there that would. I'm an RN and I have a potential job offer at a surgery clinic and I'm really excited about it. I've heard great things about working there. They pay 18 an hour. That is only 3 dollars less an hour than I make in a hospital on day shift.

I'm lucky enough that I'm not hard up for money. And to be honest, I would take the 3 bucks less an hour to have a job that I ACTUALLY LIKE, in an environment I like, and hours that work for me.

So...would you take an LPN job? Or is that just kinda crazy? AND. Would you put it on your resume you are willing to take LPN salary?

In one week I'll be leaving my LPN job to work as an RN. I hold both licenses. My LPN boss wants me to stay per diem, but she doesn't want to pay me as a per diem RN. Her exact words "Just because you go out and get extra education does not guarantee you extra pay." I'm going to make her a firm offer and tell her to take it or leave it. (Even the Medical Director, who is very arrogant and full of himself, praises my work. I'll admit, he is a genius.)

If you are willing to accept the lower pay because you want that job find out if you can be hired as the RN you are but with the lower LPN wage.

I don't have an LPN license anymore, so that's a huge problem. And no, I would not accept an LPN position as an RN. As a PP pointed out, that'd be taking away an LPN position FROM an LPN

I would simply leave this job. I would not care to deal with this kind of an attitude. I guarantee that same statement would not have been made in relation to her own move from LPN to RN.

You've anwered your own question...you want the job, you would enjoy the job, so take the job..and yes, RN's CAN work in the LPN capacity. And yes, if I were not needing money and it was a job I would enjoy, I would accept it.

I would just like to sit on the fence on this and leave a comment. I was a LPN at one time. I am now a RN, BSN. Point 1) Does your nurse practice act allow you to practice beneath your scope of highest licensure? Some states do, some don't. 2) Are you in an area where you CAN NOT get a job as a RN? Yes, I really said that, because I am one of those RN, BSN. If I NEEDED a job badly enough, you bet I would do what I had to do. I don't think any BON will keep a roof over my head. Bottom line, are you taking this job (and by nurse practice statute you can) to live, or to just work at the facility? My best to you whatever your reasons..........

I personally would not. Why make LPN wage for a job you will more than likely be utilized as an RN anyway?

If they want me to practice within my scope as an RN, then they will pay me as one. If not I will look elsewhere.
