Have you ever had to disimpact someone?? It is so humiliating and painful for the individual!! Bring back the warm prune juice and cascara!

well i was pretty "clogged up" and was on the verge of going to the ER but wifey went and got me an enama that i gave myself. not fun or the best smelling! So i can imagine doing it to someone else. i'll just have to get in there and get'r done and think about it later!

The crack when you pull a tooth, and the smell of a lower Gi bleed. I've been in the field almost 8 years, an NP for nearly one, and I will heave every single time.

Even my dentist knew to put headphones on me if I had to have an extraction.

I do hope i can get on a good team that will be willing to work around any defencies i may have. i havent been around much gore, other than my own accidents (cuts, exploded finger, crushed fingers, ect) not a big fan of losing a lot of blood tend to get pretty woosy  lol

Hi Josh,

Thanks for sharing your experience with enemas. Perhaps you are not aware of what disimpaction is...it is the removal of feces from the rectum by use of one's digits (fingers). 1000x worse than an enema....ouch!!!

probally one of the worst things for me is when anesthesia starts suctioning the pt and starts pulling out crusty old loogies out of little old people who can't cough properly (they love to show the whole room this, ick)

Another thing is people that don't take care of their teeth, breaks a jaw in a fight, comes in for a jaw wiring, has many cavities and some nasty halitosis, with a thick layer of plaque that the oral surgeon scrapes off and says ew look at this...They always wonder why I gag when I work with them...:barf01::sofahider

NG=nasogastric tube goes down the nose.

Don't get me wrong, I take the same great care of all of my patients regardless of their diagnosis and social habits, and I know this thread was meant to be humorous. That being said I have to say that the most disgusting thing encountered at work is the damage done by drugs and alcohol. When the same patients are admitted several times for various illnesses and injuries related to intoxication and years of self-neglect. Infections from IVDA, hepatic encephalopathy. And the unfortunate families that hold vigil at their bedside time after time.
