As another semester at Chamberlain comes to a close ...

Published

I just finished NR446, Collaborative Healthcare, and NR448, Information Systems for Healthcare. Initially I was nervous about taking two classes at the same time; combined with work and my paramedic stuff, plus trying to NOT neglect my husband, I didn't want to overload myself. Turns out I shouldn't have been worried at all! Collaborative Healthcare was pretty light, as far as assignment content; while there were usually weekly writing assignments, they weren't bad at all. Info Systems had a large paper due in Week 7 that was worth 40% of my grade, but I got a big ol' A on it. :D So I ended up with two A's for this session. The 4.0 lives on! YAY!!!

Next semester is NR449, Evidence-Based Practice. And then after that ... NR450, Capstone! OMG, there is a light at the end of the tunnel!! Funny -- the required book for the capstone course is one that I've already read -- Code Green: Money-Driven Hospitals and the Dismantling of Nursing, by Dana Beth Weinstein. Sadly I had just sold it to cash4books.net, mailed it out like the DAY BEFORE I found out I needed it, so I had to buy it again!! LOL. Too funny! I guess I'll keep it this time. :D

How is everyone else doing?? What are you guys taking next?

I start my 1st class Transitions tomorrow .

I am a little  confused on what they expect from the postings?? Anyone have an example of a good post they would be willing to share?? Thanks

Anybody have any tips about how to get through statistics? Starting class today looks like a lot any help would be great. Good luck to everyone on this next semester lets all get A's.

Thankfully I did statistics my first trip through school! :D

Lorie, you basically just need to post in each graded thread twice, on two separate days, with the first post no later than Wednesday each week. You'll find that the class posts really don't end up being much different than a discussion you'd have in a "normal" class setting, or not much different than the discussions here on Allnurses. :) In your class, look at the top left under "Course Home," and you should see a link for "Policies." Read the section about "Threaded Discussion Board" and that should help. In general, the instructors will either start off a discussion, or help to guide or refocus it.

My best advice is to attend the live lectures and join the FB page of the instructor that does the live lectures. The live lectures explain the labs and he often posts answers on his FB page..I can't give his name here but if you PM I'll let you know.

Hi All!

Just finished Information systems. I am in the middle of my program now. I plan to be finished in December this year, I would like to just take one class at a time, but will double up this summer for one semester when I have more time on my hands. I have no plans to go on for a MSN directly because I am a new nurse and still feel I need to get my feet wet in other specialties before I commit to an MSN. I will figure it out eventually.

I am taking Statistics this semester as well. My professor wants us to post three times a week, once at least by Wednesday. I think the key is to read the lectures, read the book, go over tutorials and live discussions early in the week, attempt the homework questions, then repeat this scenario. This is how I will get it done. There is a lot of work in statistics and on top it being confusing half of the time. I think if you just jump right into it and ask questions whenever you can, you will come out with at least a B. We will see if my strategy works at the end of the semester.

Good luck to us all!

Not going to Chamberlain but I enjoyed the book. What did you think? (OK to PM me privately if you'd like.)

I enjoyed it, too. It was interesting how the two different styles of nursing at Beth Israel and Deaconness really didn't mesh well at all. As a new-ish nurse who has only ever worked in one little ED, books like this are a real eye-opener. I'm also related to the current CEO of BIMDC (cousin, somewhere a bit down the family tree), so it was cool to see his name in there. :D He seems to be pro-nursing.

Hotlando,

I just finished Statistics. It wasn't bad at all. There is a live lecture (iConnect) on Sunday night and it's recorded. You can watch it over and over. They are AWESOME!

Good luck. You'll do well. I'm still waiting on my final grade.

Definitely get on the FB page Sue suggested. I learned so much in this class.

I just want to say thank you for this post. I'm still in my ADN program and graduate this May but I've decided to get my BSN through Chamberlain starting Oct and was curious about how it really works out. You all seem to have such a positive experience with it. It puts me a little more at ease. Thanks again.

Hi all, just was wondering what other schools did you look into before going with Chamberlain. I am a RN and have my ASN and eventually want to get my NP, but one step at a time LOL! I have been talking with the admissions director for the last couple of days and I sent her my unofficial transcripts and turns out it might take less than a year for me to get my BSN, I see that you guys seem to like it just wanted to find out more you know, have to way our options! Well thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice

Latoya, I'll attach my infamous spreadsheet for you. :D The tuition info is a little outdated, but the rest of the information should still be good. I looked at a lot of programs, but I only ended up applying to Chamberlain and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. I chose Chamberlain in the end, and I'm really happy with my choice! I'd also recommend checking out your state schools -- they usually have better tuition rates.

Thanks I will definitely check this list out.
