As another semester at Chamberlain comes to a close ...

Published

I just finished NR446, Collaborative Healthcare, and NR448, Information Systems for Healthcare. Initially I was nervous about taking two classes at the same time; combined with work and my paramedic stuff, plus trying to NOT neglect my husband, I didn't want to overload myself. Turns out I shouldn't have been worried at all! Collaborative Healthcare was pretty light, as far as assignment content; while there were usually weekly writing assignments, they weren't bad at all. Info Systems had a large paper due in Week 7 that was worth 40% of my grade, but I got a big ol' A on it. :D So I ended up with two A's for this session. The 4.0 lives on! YAY!!!

Next semester is NR449, Evidence-Based Practice. And then after that ... NR450, Capstone! OMG, there is a light at the end of the tunnel!! Funny -- the required book for the capstone course is one that I've already read -- Code Green: Money-Driven Hospitals and the Dismantling of Nursing, by Dana Beth Weinstein. Sadly I had just sold it to cash4books.net, mailed it out like the DAY BEFORE I found out I needed it, so I had to buy it again!! LOL. Too funny! I guess I'll keep it this time. :D

How is everyone else doing?? What are you guys taking next?

Christy... Things happen... That's why we are adult learners. December will be here before you know it. I'm rushing for a purpose; but it comes with a large consequence - stress. I just keep pressing on and hope that each 8 week session goes faster and more smoothly than the last. Take a break but don't lose sight of your goals.

Mareeh... Chamberlain is fully accredited; you should have no problem being accepted into a program because of this school. Especially since they already have their own online program.

I have and all of the schools I have spoken with are fine with me being from Chamberlain. I have been re-thinking things, I may start right back in this July in Chamberlains Master's in Nursing program. I spoke to them and it can be done in 12-13 months which would only be another year and then I can jump right into a DNP program and become an NP that way and it really only costs me a year. It would be nice to have the MSN in education as well as the NP. It all comes down to money so I'm working on the financial aspects now.

Hello,

I was just wondering if you've already looked into MSN programs. Did you have any particular schools in mind? I was looking into Drexel University's online program and was wondering if that was one of your school choices. I am hoping that they take Chamberlain graduates. I'm so excited to begin my Chamberlain experience but am just a little concerned on how difficult it will be to get into a grad program after.

Thanks for that info. I'm hoping in being able to complete the online RN-BSN program at Chamberlain by early next year. Since I am a new grad RN, I want to get some experience under my belt before diving into an MSN. After doing some research, I've decided that I want the MSN/MBA and then go on to get certification for NP, if I decide that I am still interested in that route.

I am still hoping to convince my husband to uproot ourselves out of sunny San Diego if I get accept into schools, such as UCSF or UPenn. I'm not counting on it though. But, I am highly considering Drexel University's online BSN-MSN program; although, it has been pretty tough for me to find any information on it.

I was also looking into Chamberlain's Leadership MSN program. Have they told you what the cost will be in regards to their MSN program per credit hour? I know that it starts getting pricier for their MSN program. I heard from an old coworker that the MSN does have group projects based on course descriptions. I, of course, did not go out of my way to read course descriptions and have not yet come across anyone that is currently in their MSN program to get a more reliable account on this.

It is tempting to stay at Chamberlain and be done in a year. Plus we get an alumni discount. Maybe MPH should wait. Oh Im torn

Way to go Lunah! I am curious, why Chamberlain and not EC? Thanks

After I graduated with my ASN, EC did an "unofficial" evaluation of my 206 college credits (I'm not kidding, I really had that many at the time), and they still wanted me to take 10 gen ed credits. They also didn't give me credit for the statistics class that I took, so I called them and asked about that. They said hey, scan in your syllabus (yes, I still have it) and send it in -- we'll take a look at it. Great! So then I get a message that said sorry, while the syllabus looks promising, they can't officially evaluate that syllabus for credit until I enroll. That didn't sit well with me. So I started to look around at other programs, and found several that are comparable in price, don't charge a ginormous enrollment fee, and don't charge a student services annual fee. I wrote EC back and told them that as a recent grad, I was disappointed in their response and that I'd be going elsewhere to further my education.

Good for you Lunah! Should I ever get to that point, I've also made the same decision about going elsewhere for the BSN. I find it deplorable that on the second go around they made me pay for, and retake, all of the nursing exams. I saw absolutely no need for that move, other than for them to collect the money all over again. I like your description of Chamberlain's program.

I understand. I would have done the same thing. It's funny how they give a discount enrollment fee if you purse a second degree with EC. However, that only applies to bachelor degrees not gradate degrees. That does not sound like a deal to me.

EC is great, but it must realize that there are hundreds of schools that they are up against hundreds of other universities.

Ok in a bit of a panic! I am doing three classes next session Community Health Nursing, Evidenced Based Practice, and Collaborative healthcare. I'm not worried about the content as much as I'm worried about the trip that I had prescheduled for week 7. It's my 1 year anniversary and we wanted to be cheesy and go back to Jamaica the same place for our honeymoon. Any recollection as to whether I will be able to do some pre writing in any of these? I don't know if there are tests or group projects or papers or what! I know the resort has wifi but I just want to prepare myself before I go or take a pay penalty to reschedule. Thanks for any advice:)

I think you should be okay -- we have a quiz in Week 7 of evidence-based practice, but I think everything else from Week 7 in all three classes can be done ahead of time -- when I took Collaborative Healthcare, we had a resume/cover letter due in Week 7, and for Community Health Nursing, our experiential learning assignment was due in Week 7, but was a work in progress for several weeks prior. In EBP, we have a research report due in Week 7. Enjoy your trip, and happy anniversary!! :)

Thanks Lunah!

I hope to try to portfolio out of community or collab. Not that my resume is stellar or anything but I think I'll try. I wonder how many have been able to do that...
