Hello all,
Can anyone tell me how the APFTs are conducted? Indoor, outdoor? How are you run thru the paces? Do you do your situps, roll over and do your pushups immediately afterward, then do you run your 2miles? Kind of like an obastacle course pace? Or are the exercises grouped for different times and days?
Thank you. That is great info. Question about the sit-ups? I googled the sit-ups and push-ups to see how they were done - on Youtube. The sit-ups were shown with the arms crossed in front of the chest, not the hands behind the head....... So I'm wondering....
We (the Air Force) do them that way because it puts less strain on the back and neck.
I had my first APFT test yesterday. It was not for record since I am in RC and havent been to OBLC yet. Anyhow I passed! I did have one hiccup. I ran the 2 mile in 15:36 which I though was pretty good but my grader forgot to record my score even after acknowledging me as I crossed the finish line. So I learned a very important lesson. When you cross the finish line keep going but make sure you came back quickly to your grader and make 100% positive he got your score on the sheet. They got my score straightened out cause I had many witnesses and happened to be one of the faster ones and they were suprised a new LT did pretty good so that was cool.
For the sittups. I thought those were easy. They are touching elbows to knees and counting those cause base of neck is passed bottom of spine. I had been training past that point.
Pushups I passed but I was touching chest to ground. That was really stupid. Make sure when you do your pushups your only going to 90 cause otherwise youll burn alot of unneded energy like I did...
good for you who have passed their apft and met the wt standards. with that said, let me state that nothing will derail your career in the millitary than failure to pass pt test and wt limits. even the suckiest nurse will get promoted aslong as they score 275 on pt and make wt. i saw many a fine soldier blackmarked and booted out cuase of those deficiencies. good luck.

Actually I think the standard to officially pass the PT is to make a total score of 180 (60 is minimal passing for all three events). And, of course, to pass your height/weight OR you can be a NO GO for your weight but get a GO on your taping and PASS.
You need to have a passing PT if you want to be promoted, or to go TDY (short course)

Thank you for the info. God I hate to run - always have. Sprinting is a good suggestion though. I'll add it ot my regimen. I live in Fla, but have heard the heat in Texas can be brutal - hoping for a winter OBLC when as is said and done :)
