Just wondering if anyone else is preparing their packet for the upcoming selection board?
So I was just informed by my recruiter that their is no active 66B mission for this year. How can that be?! So now I guess I have to decide if I want to go 66B Reserve or if I want to go 66H active.
My only problem with 66H is that it has been a year since I worked on a surgery floor and I have never worked on a medicine floor. And with my horrible luck I would end up on a medicine floor and not have a clue!
Right now I am waiting on my recruiter to give me a time to come in and talk to her regarding my options.
Any advice? I just hope my recruiter is wrong about this!!!
Awwww, huntergirlRN -- I am sorry! I know I would have been upset if there was no 66HM5 (ER) mission when I was applying! I've only ever been in the ER, never on med-surg, so I'd be a complete klutzoid on the floor. LOL. I guess you'll have to decide what your goals are -- Active vs. Reserves, etc. I guess the other things to consider is would you be able to easily transition from Reserves to Active when there are Active 66B slots, or would you be able to transition from Active 66H to 66B? We all know the needs of the Army come first, but still ...
Thanks Lunah!
The more I think about it the more stressed I get! I have it down to 2 options unless I get good news from the recruiter.
Option 1: Join Reserves as a 66B and then hope that I can volunteer to go on active duty (not sure how likely that is). Then after my commitment is fulfilled I will put my packet before the board to go active.
Option 2: Go active 66H, hope I have a great chief nurse (is that what they are called) that will nominate me to go to the 66B course after a year of MS. I just don't know how competitive my packet will be since I am no longer a surgery nurse.
Right now I am leaning toward the 66H. After thinking about it today I believe I am more interested in the Army then in Community Health. I just wish I could have the best of both worlds:rolleyes:
I really wish I knew some 66B that I could talk this over with. If I knew it wasn't that hard to get into the 66B course then I would be all over joining as a 66H. After 2 deployments, I figure I can do anything for a year or two!
An update on my status: I was finally able to locate all of my National Guard docs! I had to call the Adjutant General's office in Louisiana and it took forever, but I got them! My recruiter says that my packet has to pass 5 levels in order to go before the board and it has passed level 3. Anyone know what the last two levels check for?

HuntergirlRN,
What was your MOS when you were enlisted? Have you heard anything about your elibility?
