Just wondering if anyone else is preparing their packet for the upcoming selection board?

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.
I'm applying to the board as a 66B-that is if they say I have been a community health nurse long enough :o

How long have you been a community health nurse? Welcome to allnurses, and good luck!! :)

Thanks! I started as a school nurse in January. But I did some PT public health work last year. I'm a little confused on if I need 1 year or 1500 hours. I have the hours-easily, but I depending on how they add everything up I might be a month short of a year. My CV is under review right now. My recruiter keeps telling me I should be good-but as prior enlisted, if I can't read the actual regulation then I doubt everything:o

For the M5 (ER) special identifier, it was required that we'd worked 1500 hours in an ER in the last two years. Understand about wanting to read it for yourself!! ;)

I'm just trying to not think about it and trust in my recruiter. My recruiter told me that it is not very competitive to get in as a 66B-hope that is true. If that is true then I can wait a month or two to get in if I really have to have a year experience. But I really don't want to wait, I want to get boards over with and start on active duty asap!

Just be prepared for a little wait if you get selected - I didn't go anywhere for almost 4 months after selection.

How long was it after you got your orders that you had to report? I always have bad luck so I can see them only giving me 2 weeks to report.

Oh geez, don't use me as a yardstick ... I got my orders on 9 March to report on 23 March. Definitely not the 45 to 60 days they usually like to do! But that was during the last fiscal crisis/possible gov't shutdown time, and it was a matter of getting funding for our "seats" at BOLC released so that the RFO (request for orders) could be generated, which in turn sets the process in motion for actual orders to be cut. It was not a fun wait!! I gave notice at my old ER in February, and my last shift was 3 March ... all on faith! Hahaha. I was so happy when I got my orders! I was still holding on to my per diem job at a local Level 2, just in case. :D

Lunah, would you say it took that long because you were waiting for a BOLC seat? I would think those who are just going to a duty station (like myself, hopefully) would not take as long to get orders.

Absolutely. The people who were permanent party (stationed at BAMC) who were going to BOLC got their orders much sooner because their seats were funded out of a different pot of money, which leads me to believe that funding for BOLC was definitely the hold-up for orders (and that money continues to be the root of all evil, hahaha).

So any idea what the time between when you are notified and your RFO comes through would be normally? This part of the process is pretty new for me.

Lunah-Did they tell you that you would be going in March before the actual orders came? Or were you in the dark before the orders came? I hope I get 60 days notice-then I can give my job a month and then I can go play for a month:yeah:

I think my RFO came out about a week before I got my orders. And yes, I was verbally informed that I would be going to BOLC in March. Very glad that was accurate.
