Has anybody taken the LPN program thru MSC or attended the information meeting? If so what did you think?

Passion_4_Nursing, I am in my last block, graduating May 10th, and so far the program has been great. We lost a few in Block 1, but so far, we've retained most of our class. We've had a lot of people transfer in this last semester from other schools, and they all say that MCC is awesome compared to their old program as far as content, instructors, and clinicals go.

Glina, I don't think there is a wait to get into block 3 at MCC. We didn't get any transfers at all Block 3, I think it was just rare. I would imagine that spaces open up by then, since Block 1 & 2 may have some students that fail. Hope that helps. ;)

Do you really have to wait a year to get into LPN program at one of the skill centers? I was wondering, after you get your LPN at the skill center, how long you have to wait to get at the block 3 at Community College, and do you have to wait at all?

Yes, I waited close to a year and that was in 2004. I just used the time to take a lot of prereqs. One advantace of MSC is that you get a definite start date.

There was no wait at all to get into block 3. There are openings in the programs going into block 3.

Hey, did you know if you go this route it is a lot faster, they just started doing it at MCC, i don't know if they do it everywhere else. I believe if you do an EMT program, which is 1 year, you can enter the RN program at Block 3, and finish that in 1 year. We just started it this year and had a whole batch of EMTs join us, and I don't think we have lost any of them. They had to take Block 1,2, and Patho over the summer, so I'm sure it was crammed and tough, but they got done what we did in a year in one summer. That's the fastest way I can come up with to graduate an RN program without prereqs. I'd check into it with an advisor first though, just to be sure.

Actually, one has to be a paramedic to get into that bridge program. That's the EMT B, I & P programs. In additional, the BIO 201,205,205, etc. prereqs also have to be done to start in block three. It actually takes more work and time.

Does anybody know when do classes start at Maricopa Skill Center? Does their program run a few times a year, and if yes, how often?

Specializes in ER, home care, med-surg, tele, ICU....

I would be surprised if those spaces in ANY MCC class last long. I know our Rio Salado class lost 90% of the students. There are two of us that passed. All the others are looking for another MCC school to fit them in to finnish their nursing degree. I just completed the program through Maricopa. All I can say is, good luck. If you have the option of avoiding Rio Salado, do it. They get sick jollies off of failing people

The next class starts in mid-October. It runs at least a couple of times a year. I'm not certain exactly now often.

I was hoping someone could answer a few of my questions. Hoping to start Maricopa Skills Center soon, is the program difficult? What was the program like block 0, 1, 2? Any breaks in between? I am done with my pre'req's but the wait is too long to get into the local community college, so I will apply into Block 3 once I am done at Maricopa Skills.

Did you like the program? Was it hard to find a job working as an LPN while you were completing the rest of school?

Thanks in advance for your time!!! :specs:

the wait probably is a year by now. when i did mine, i think i signed up in 03, there was a 9 month wait. i used that time to do a lot of prereqs (online at rio). like hoozdo said, the good part is that you get a definite start date and you can use the time to take other classes.

i did mine at the skill center over in goodyear at estrella community college. i didn't think the program was any harder than if you just went straight through blocks 1-4 at the community colleges where you have to enter the lottery.

you do the reading, study your nclex books, don't screw around at clinical, and you will pass. it's hard, but not too hard and it's doable.

i worked as a cna very part time during the lpn program. i worked as an lpn while i was in rn school and i felt all that worked really helped me prepare for what was in store for me as an rn. it made it much easier. so if you can do that, i highly recommend it.

i was able to go right into the rn program (block 3) at estrella mountain once i was one with my lpn program. been an rn for almost a year now and i do really like it. (especially the paychecks and the flexibility. :)

goodluck,

rebecca
